In this guide I will show the different ways to lift yourself up again when your teammates are busy or not helpful or dead.

Intro

So, you got downed and the killer left you eating dirt from the floor? The killer is slugging everyone and the remaining survivors are either too busy or don’t even care about you? Well this guide will show you the different ways that you can get back on your feet on your own.

Ok first thing to do is to always prioritize recovery. This means that no matter where you fall start filling your recovery bar as soon as possible, don’t try to crawl away. Most of the times is useless, it’s very rare the times that those pay off.

When you are downed, you make sounds giving away your location, even if you use perks like Iron Will (Grunts of Pain caused by injuries are reduced by 50/75/100%.) those don’t work when you are in dying state, also since you crawl slow (except for the perk Tenacity – Your ferocious tenacity in dire situations allows you to crawl 30/40/50% faster and recover at the same time.), you won’t get very far and by the time you find a safe spot to recover, someone will come to rescue you and see that your bar is so low that they will give up or lead the killer right to you mid chase making your “safe” spot no longer safe and you have to start crawl again to a new location, so always go for recovery first.

I would only advise in crawling away in case you are close to a pallet, so put yourself under one in case someone tries to save you or if you get near a window/locker, you may also crawl next to it because some killes vault or open lockers by mistake wasting a few more seconds (if they vault from a high place even better). Also when everyone else is dead and the hatch is open, it’s good to crawl around to try and find the hatch unless you can get back on your feet instead. If all hope is lost… then just recover for some bloodpoints.

Perk – Unbreakable

Dead by Daylight - How to recover from the dying state (solo) - Perk - Unbreakable
Grants the ability to fully recover from the Dying State once per Trial.
Increases the Dying State Recovery speed by 25/30/35 %.

Probably the most known perk to recover yourself and my favourite of these, it’s quite useful and speeds up the process, the only downside is that it can only be used once. Although in some matches you won’t even get to use it. If you see that someone is coming for you and the killer isn’t close by, just leave the last recovery bit for your teammate so you won’t waste your perk yet.

Perk – No Mither

Dead by Daylight - How to recover from the dying state (solo) - Perk - No Mither
You are affected by the Broken Status Effect for the entire Trial.

You do not leave any Pools of Blood.
Grunts of Pain caused by injuries are reduced by 0/25/50% at any time.
Grants the ability to fully recover from the Dying State.

Well this one always grants you infinite recoveries although you sacrifice your healthy state. It’s up to you whether or not it fits your style. Your recovery speed isn’t increased.

Perk – Adrenaline

Dead by Daylight - How to recover from the dying state (solo) - Perk - Adrenaline
Instantly heal one Health State IconStatusEffects and sprint at 150 % of your normal Running speed for 5 seconds when the Exit Gates are powered.

Adrenaline is on hold if you are disabled at the moment it triggers and will instead activate upon being freed.

If playing against The Nightmare, Adrenaline will wake you from the Dream World upon activation.

Adrenaline ignores an existing Exhaustion timer.

Adrenaline triggers the Exhausted Status Effect for 60/50/40 seconds.

Well this one only happens in specific situations, but if you are down when someone finishes the last generator or the hatch is closed, you instantly get up again (injured state) and you get a boost of speed. It’s kinda a rare situation but when it does happen you get a feeling of satisfaction for that moment and be glad you had this perk.
But in reality in some matches you won’t ever get to use this perk.

Perk – Soul Guard

Dead by Daylight - How to recover from the dying state (solo) - Perk - Soul Guard
Gain the Endurance Status Effect for 4/6/8 seconds after being healed or having recovered from the Dying State.
During this time, any damage that would put you in the Dying State will instead apply the Deep Wound Status Effect.
You have 20 seconds to Mend yourself.
If you take any damage while affected by Deep Wound, or if the timer ends, you are immediately put into the Dying State.

While affected by the Cursed Status Effect, you can fully recover from the Dying State.

I don’t see this perk being used much but it can be quite powerful in matches that go wrong fast. Basically you get an extra hit for 8 seconds after you fully recover, it’s quite useful for last minute escapes close by the killer. And being able to recover as many times as you want while cursed it’s a great plus. So the first thing you should do is to get cursed as soon as possible in case the killer is running hex totems.
I am not going to show a list of all the hex perks since there’s already a wiki page with all of them. But usually if the killer is running hex perks, some of the fastest ways to check if you can get cursed is to start working on a generator and stop, start working on any totem you see or just walk by one, fast vault a window, or get hit by a basic killer attack. The remaining curses will appear after a few players have been hooked. Please note that some of these actions will alert the killer to your location.
Also keep in mind that most survivors will cleanse any hex totem that they see and you should also cleanse them since the majority of them are quite powerful for the killer. So once there’s none left, you stop being cursed and you can’t recover.

Perk – Decisive Strike

Dead by Daylight - How to recover from the dying state (solo) - Perk - Decisive Strike
After being unhooked or unhooking yourself, Decisive Strike will become active and usable for 40/50/60 seconds.

While Decisive Strike is active, when grabbed by the Killer, succeed a Skill Check to automatically escape the Killer’s grasp and stun them for 5 seconds.

Successfully stunning the Killer will result in you becoming the Obsession.
While Decisive Strike is active, the following interactions will deactivate it for the remainder of the Trial:

Succeeding or failing the Decisive Strike Skill Check.
Repairing a Generator.
Healing yourself or other Survivors.
Cleansing a Totem.
Sabotaging a Hook.
Unhooking other Survivors.
Increases the odds of being the Obsession.

The Killer can only be obsessed with one Survivor at a time.

Well this is one of most popular perks and in case you just got hooked and went down again (or maybe got grabbed), if you didn’t have a chance to recover, then you can still have a chance to escape for the next 60 seconds if the killer grabs you. Just do a skill check and you are back on your feet.

Perk – Flip-Flop

Dead by Daylight - How to recover from the dying state (solo) - Perk - Flip-Flop
While in the Dying State, 50 % of your Recovery progression is converted into wiggle progression when you are picked up by the Killer, up to a maximum of 40/45/50 % total wiggle progression.

Well this perk itself is a bit hard to pull it off but this one combined with fast recovery perks can help you escape the killer’s grasp if you have enough time to wiggle before you get to a hook.

Perk – Power Struggle

Dead by Daylight - How to recover from the dying state (solo) - Perk - Power Struggle
While being carried by The Killer, reaching 35/30/25 % Wiggle progression activates Power Struggle.

While Power Struggle is active, you can drop a nearby, standing Pallet to stun The Killer and be released.

Power Struggle is deactivated when it triggers successfully.

Well this is another one hard to pull it off since the killer can easily avoid pallets and you need 25% wiggle progression but this one combined with the previous perk “Flip Flop”, you can just crawl to under a pallet and you have a guaranteed escape. If you want you can even combine this one with fast recovery perks. Although you will waste a lot of perk slots just for these particular situations.

Perk – Tenacity (Not solo)

Dead by Daylight - How to recover from the dying state (solo) - Perk - Tenacity (Not solo)
Your ferocious tenacity in dire situations allows you to crawl 30/40/50 % faster and recover at the same time.

This perk itself doesn’t allow you to get back on your feet on your own although I wanted to add it to the list since it can be combined with a lot of the other perks that I mentioned before. This one allows you recover and crawl to a better position at the same time and if you are getting slugged, you might be able to go to an exit gate if it’s open or even find the hatch since the killer isn’t expecting you to move so fast when you are down. Just try to move out of his sight when he is not looking at you.

Medkit – Anti-Haemorrhagic Syringe (Not solo)

Dead by Daylight - How to recover from the dying state (solo) - Medkit - Anti-Haemorrhagic Syringe (Not solo)
An anti-haemorrhagic substance that stops the bleeding in a matter of seconds.
Use with Secondary Action.
The affected Survivor will passively gain one Health State 16 seconds after use.
The time required can be modified by Perks and Add-ons that affect Healing speeds.
This effect is cancelled when the affected Survivor changes their Health State or is picked up by the Killer.
Using Anti-Haemorrhagic Syringe will destroy the Add-on and deplete the Med-Kit’s Charges.

This more of a clarification and not a method of recovery since this add-on DOES NOT allow you to recover from the dying state on your own. You can’t activate it while you are on the ground and if you activate it before you go down, the effect will cancel. I am just adding this to the list so people don’t waste it thinking they can use it.

Outro

Alright those are all the methods that I know of to get back on your feet without the help of teammates. Let me know if you know any other way.
Although since you are playing as a survivor, this is a team based game and hopefully you can rely on them to help you in dire situations but we all know that player that is just a tourist and checking the views while you are in a world of pain and for those cases maybe this guide can help you.
