This guide will hopefully assist you in getting scrap metal fast.
 

First step

If there aren't many nodes, load into a server that has just been wiped or is one day old.
 
 
 

Second step

Once you have a base and some tools, you can start farming the road. You should get 80 to 110 scrap per run.
 
 
 

Third and final step

With good progress, you should be able make tier 3 and larger monuments in 7 to 8 hours. Once you have done all the research, you can start to recycle any good scrap parts that you don't use. You can recycle sheet metal, tech trash and rifle and SMG bodies, as well as road signs and pipes. You should have enough scrap for the day. If you need more scrap farming, you can use the road to spawn a new spawn or take a low-tier weapon depending on what you are researching.
