Introduction

Congratulations! It’s your first week and you’ve found and settled into a base, gathered a good amount of loot, and maybe started your own farm. Although it’s looking good, a veteran survivor has one weary thing on mind: the helicopter event.

Surviving

In Project Zomboid, on days 6-9, between 9AM to 6PM (18:00) a helicopter will fly in above Knox county and begin to follow the player for a large chunk of the day. Although newer players may believe that rescue has arrived, it’s quite the contrary. The helicopter will attract large amounts of zombies to you, depending on your location on the map. This can be devastating on a city loot run, or to the oblivious survivor tucked into their base. In any case, the best way to ride out the helicopter event is to drive around the large highways and roads. Make sure to bring a good amount of food and water to tide you over as well. Keep in mind that this event will only happen once, unless settings are changed in sandbox mode. Preparation is key!

There is only one way to know when the helicopter is coming: the emergency broadcast station on the radio. On the day the helicopter comes, at around 9am, the radio station will announce “Air activity detected.” This is the only hint in the game to prepare for the heli.

Conclusion

The heli event may seem quite daunting, but with ample preparation, its just a simple one-time event that every player has to deal with. Good luck, and thanks for reading! I look forward to making more PZ guides.
