This guide will help you save some space by moving mods to a separate drive or a partition

Introduction

We were all at the point where we had to manually purge some of the mods we downloaded while playing on public servers, because different reasons. Most probable is low drive space, game installed in system drive (SSD) with low capacity, etc…

There is a solution, which I discovered recently, and have decided to share my findings with the community. It is actually quite easy to do.

Requirements

Tools you will need : Link Shell Extension – [priv.at]

You need to install this or make symbolink link manually, which I am not going to describe here.

Onto work

Go to your Insurgency Sandstorm install folder which is usually for most people located in

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\sandstorm\Insurgency\Mods\

Now its time to move your mods folder. Move entire modio folder to a suitable location, where you want your mods to be. Note that placing mods on HDD or slower drives might impact your loading times while playing on modded servers. Nothing too severe though.

With Link Shell Extension installed, all you need to do is right click on modio folder and select Pick Link Source. Now navigate back to original Insurgency Sandstorm install location and go to Mods folder, right click inside it and select Drop As…. > Symbolink link

Conclusions and notices

Make sure game is not running when you do this. To verify you got everything working, launch the game and try playing on community servers with mods enabled.

??? It works? Happy playing
