Whiff Cancels operate the same way as Free Cancels but don’t need to be switched on. Instead, you can make use of your BURST Meter. They also don’t give you access to all of your options like you would with the Free Cancel.

If you are in the middle or executing of your choice and your opponent’s actions become actionable, you can Whiff Cancel. This is a great option, mainly if no Free Cancels are available or you haven’t chosen one. However, the drawback of Whiff Cancels is that it consumes a significant portion of your BURST meter to do (about 75%); BURST will be described more in the next section.

In addition, as we have mentioned, you don’t have all your options when performing a Whiff Cancel. You won’t be able to dodge, block, move, or use all your offensive options.
