This is my guide on some general tips and tricks for trading in TF2!

Overview

This guide is for all kinds of traders from just starting out to high tier traders!

I’ve been trading for a long time now and I’ve picked up a lot of tips and tricks. I will update this guide when and where it needs to be updated.

If you like the guide, make sure to give it a like and add it to your favorites it if you want to. Alrighty, time to get into the juicy stuff.

TF2 Currency

In TF2 trading, metal and keys (specifically Mann.Co Supply Crate Keys) are used as the currency. You can combine 2 normal weapons into 1 scrap metal. You can craft 3 scrap metal into 1 reclaimed metal. You can combine 3 reclaimed metal into 1 refined metal. The price of a key is always changing. At the time I am making this guide, they are typically worth around 50 to 55 refined.

1. 1 common weapon is equal to 0.05 refined metal.

2. 1 scrap metal is equal to 0.11 refined metal.

3. 1 reclaimed metal is equal to 0.33 refined metal.

Trading Websites

Here are some helpful trading websites that you should use:

1. backpack.tf

2. scrap.tf

3. stntrading.eu

4. marketplace.tf

Backpack.tf is extremely useful and almost essential for trades. On backpack.tf, you can check the prices of items. You are going to want to use this to price your own items and other people’s items.

Scrap.tf is useful for multiple things. You can join and make free raffles, you can buy and sell items, and you can make or participate in auctions.

Stn is very useful for buying and selling your items quickly.

Marketplace.tf is useful if you want to buy and sell items for real money. It’s completely safe to use and a very trusted site. It uses Paypal for its payment method so it is completely secure.

Note: Marketplace.tf has recently cancelled its seller program so unless you have sold something there before, you will not be able to anymore. However, you can still buy items on this site.

An extra note that might be useful to know is that you can’t trade on these sites unless you have the mobile authenticator.

Trade Slang

When you are trading, there are going to be a lot of phrases and words that you will come across that you might not know. Here is a list of common words and phrases:

1. Quicksells (QS): A quicksell or “qs” is when someone wants to quickly get rid of something from their inventory by selling it at a lower price.

2. Quickbuys (QB): A quickbuy or “qb” is essentially the same thing as a quicksell, but it is when someone is buying quicksells instead of selling them.

3. “Scrap” is used in two different ways. 1. It can be used to refer to scrap metal. 2. It can be used to refer to scrap.tf.

4. “Rec” or “reclaimed” is just a shortened way of saying reclaimed metal.

5. “Ref” or “refined” is just a shortened way of saying refined metal.

6. “Backpack” or “bp” or “bp.tf”: this is just referring to backpack.tf (see section: “Trading Websites”).

7. “Craft hats”: Craft hats are just very cheap hats that people use in crafting. They can be made by combining 3 refined metal in TF2’s crafting system. There is a chance of crafting a hat that is worth more than 3 refined metal which lures a lot of people into crafting hats, but usually you get one that is cheaper (around 1 to 2 refined metal).

8. “Bots” refer to trading bots that some people use to buy or sell items. You will hear things such as “I can buy this from a bot for X keys” or “I’m selling it a few ref above bot buy orders” (<— referring to backpack.tf buy orders).

Scams

These days, scammers are everywhere. Trade servers, trading websites, steam, and pretty much anywhere else that they can try and get to you. You have to be very very careful about the trades you make and always make sure to pricecheck items. Scammers also will try to add you and tell you things like “You have won X items! Go onto this link to receive them!” or “Hey, I accidentally reported you for scamming instead of someone else.” Don’t fall for these tricks and try to study up on how scammers do stuff if you can.
