All of these creatures can be used as components in the Crab Pot Bundle. Some are only obtainable using a baited Crab Pot. Crabs drop from Rock Crabs (15%) and Lava Crabs (25%) Baiting the rewarded crab pots however, is not possible without first reaching level two in fishing, or viewing Linus’ 4-Heart cutscene.

Bait

Bait: Bait can be bought at the Fish Shop for 5g each, crafted, grown in a Worm Bin, or found in Fishing Treasure Chests. Bait may also randomly appear in the Traveling Cart’s stock for Gold 100-1,000g when it does appear.Thirty bait are the reward for completing the River Fish Bundle in the Fish Tank in the community center.
Bait cannot be used with the Bamboo Pole. Only the Fiberglass Rod (unlocked at Fishing skill level 2) or the Iridium Rod (unlocked at Fishing skill level 6) can use bait. Bait can also be used with Crab Pots
Using bait with your fishing rod reduces the delay before a nibble by 50%

Wild Bait:Wild Bait can be crafted from a recipe obtained from Linus after triggering his 4-heart cutscene. (To trigger the cutscene, earn 4 hearts of friendship with Linus, then enter the Mountain between 8pm and 12am on a sunny day.)
Using Wild Bait with your fishing rod reduces the delay before a nibble by 62.5%. There is also a chance to catch two fish, equal to 0.25 + Daily Luck / 2.0 [1]. The chance to catch 2 fish does not apply to Legendary Fish.

Also take note that catching two fish does not grant double Fishing Experience points
