Choose the farm wisely

In the game there are various maps, each of them with different benefits, let’s see them together:

    Standard Farm;
  • Stardew Valley - Initiation
    Riverland Farm;
  • Stardew Valley - Initiation
    Forest Farm;
  • Stardew Valley - Initiation
    Hill-top Farm;
  • Stardew Valley - Initiation
    Wilderness Farm;
  • Stardew Valley - Initiation
    Four Corners Farm.

  1. Stardew Valley - Initiation
    Standard Farm: Much of this map is farm land, ideal for crops and animals; The number of arable squares on this map is 3427, with 235 non arable squares but on which it can be built; The largest contiguous rectangular area is 63 x 31 (1953) squares.
  2. Stardew Valley - Initiation
    Riverland Farm: Much of this map is water. Fishing is practicable on this farm; The player can catch river fish, such as those found in Pelican Town, but with a higher chance of getting trash; Water significantly reduces the amount of arable land; The number of arable squares on this map is 1578, with 516 not arable but on which it can be built.
  3. Stardew Valley - Initiation
    Forest Farm: The edge of the farm is made up of trees and foliage, just like in the Secret Forest; Many bushes can be found on this map, including berry bushes; In the glades to the west there are eight renewable large stumps (hardwood), part of the seasonal wild harvest, and unique weeds that always cause mixed seeds to fall; The player can catch pond fish, such as those found in the pond of the Linfabrace Forest, but with a higher chance of getting trash. The player can also capture the lumberjack; Ponds and additional grassy areas reduce the overall arable area; The number of arable squares on this map is 1413, with 77 not arable but on which it can be built.
  4. Stardew Valley - Initiation
    Hill-top Farm: On the southernmost peak there are stones, rough nodules, and Geodes that vary depending on the player’s Extraction level. The extraction areas can sometimes be obstructed by Large Logs, Large Trunks or Boulders that make access impossible as long as the player will not have the right tool; Additional cliffs and streams reduce the total arable area; The player can catch fish such as those found in the Linfabrace Forest river, but with a higher chance of getting junk; The number of arable squares on this map is 1648, with 930 not arable but on which it can be built; The largest contiguous rectangular area is 27 x 8 (216) squares.
  5. Stardew Valley - Initiation
    Wilderness Farm: Monsters appear at night (based on the player’s Combat level. Wild Golems are specific to this map; The player can catch lake fish, such as those found in the mountain lake, but with a higher probability of getting junk; Additional cliffs and ponds reduce the total arable area; The number of arable squares on this map is 2131, with 444 not arable but on which it can be built.
  6. Stardew Valley - Initiation
    Four Corners Farm: The cultivable area is divided by cliffs into four distinct areas, each of which recalls the features of the other maps; Top left: Forest Farm. This dial includes a small grassy plate that contains a large stump; Top right: Standard Farm. This quadrant includes most of the cultivable space; Bottom left: this quadrant has a pond or lake. The player can catch fish, but with a higher chance of getting trash; Bottom right: Hill-top Farm. This quadrant contains a small quarry in which rough nodules and Geodes appear based on the player’s Extraction level; Additional cliffs and pools reduce the total arable area.

If you are playing for the first time, I will advise you to choose the standard map that will help you understand what your favorite pastimes will be.

Activate “Always show tool hit location” immediately

Stardew Valley - Initiation - Activate "Always show tool hit location" immediately

The controls of Stardew Valley are initially really confused and every time it seems to be irrigating / cutting / hoeing the wrong square to which you are pointing. Once you activate the “Always show tool hit location” option from the general settings, you will see a red outline around the box you have chosen as a target. In this way you will be able to perfectly control your character.

Watch TV every morning

Stardew Valley - Initiation - Watch TV every morning

Watching TV every morning will reveal very useful information, for example:

  • The forecasts will inform you of what will happen the next day and you will act accordingly.
  • The Fortune Teller channel will inform you about the events in the game and the value of some objects if collected on certain lucky days.
  • The Queen of Sauce program will teach you one cooking recipe for week.
  • The Livin ‘Off the Land program asks you for important information about the game. For example, it can tell you where and when you can find fish.

Hoe in areas where there are worms

Stardew Valley - Initiation - Hoe in areas where there are worms

If you pay attention, lines emerge from the dirt on the ground that are nothing but worms. Once you hoe the area where you see the worms, you will find a precious object. Items can be lost books from the library that collect game hints and secrets. In addition you can also find artifacts for the museum or simply mud. Worms are found most often after a rainy day and on lucky days. So watch out for TV!

Go to sleep

Stardew Valley - Initiation - Go to sleep

Staying awake past 1am is not a problem until you run out of energy, but the next day you will wake up with much less energy. Every time the clock strikes 2 in the morning, you may pass out on the floor and this is even worse than going to sleep tired. In this case, in addition to having less energy, you will be charged a percentage of gold by those who brought you home. So be sure to go home at a decent time!

Repair the bridge

Stardew Valley - Initiation - Repair the bridge

When you start playing you will see a destroyed board near the river which requires 300 woods to repair. 300 woods are many, especially at the beginning. You will therefore have to cut trees for a day or two, but I assure you that it will be worth it in the long run. Repairing this bridge will give you access to an area where you will find sea urchins and corals, which can be sold at exorbitant prices.

Build a silo before cutting the grass

Stardew Valley - Initiation - Build a silo before cutting the grass

When you start playing, your farm will be in a pitiful state. However, you must resist the urge to remove the weeds. Once collected, the weed automatically becomes hay, excellent for feeding your animals. The problem is that hay is obtained only after you have built a Silo where straw is collected. I therefore advise you to immediately build the Silo which costs 100 gold, 100 stones, 5 pieces of copper and 10 clays.

Bring food to the mines

Stardew Valley - Initiation - Bring food to the mines

Food is underestimated at the beginning because you don’t have a kitchen and raw food. The ability of food to regenerate health and energy is enormous and it is essential, especially if you want to get the most out of going to the mines. I therefore advise you to get food and take it on your trips to the mine.

Use the crab pots

Stardew Valley - Initiation - Use the crab pots

Crab pots are objects that if put in water and equipped with bait, allow you to collect your shellfish from the next day. It is not an object to have immediately as you have to have level 3 in fishing and have a lot of gold to buy or create it. It is not cheap but it is an excellent investment, as it does not break, does not run out and is a great source of revenue.

Strategically improve your watering cans

Stardew Valley - Initiation - Strategically improve your watering cans

Improving your watering can is something you need to do when your farm starts to grow and you won’t have enough time and energy to irrigate everything yourself. Improving the watering cans will in fact save you precious energy, since with holding down the left mouse button you can water several panels at the same time. Unfortunately, the improvement takes 2 days, which means that you won’t be able to water your plants for a whole day. To avoid this, remember to check the weather forecast on TV and wait for the rainy day for the sky to water the plants for you.
