Portal 2 – [WINDOWS] fixing authoring tools UI mis-scaling after the update

Introduction

If you’re like me and the update to the portal 2 authoring tools has caused your UI to be a bit messed up, screwing with your muscle memory a bit, then this guide is for you! 
 
it’ll take you through a fairly easy to follow, simple solution for this issue. 
 
 
 

Step 1: locating the exe file for hammer

The hammer.exe file is located in your portal 2 bin folder, through the steamapps directory 
 
 
Then you will need to find hammer.exe, it looks like this 
 
 
 
 

Step 2: editing the properties

Right click on hammer.exe and select “properties“, it’s at the bottom of the list 
 
 
Then, once in the properties, go to the “compatibility” tab and select “ Change high DPI settings” 
 
 
Once in high DPI settings, go to the bottom and check the box that says “Override high DPI scaling behavior“, then go to the dropdown labeled “scaling performed by:” and change it from “application” to “system” then hit “ok” 
 
 
When you’re back in the properties window, hit “apply” 
 
 
 

Step 3: restart hammer

If you restart hammer after this, everything should be back to it’s proper scaling! 
 
If it still looks like this, then re-read the guide 
 
 
If it looks like this, then you’re good to go!
