This video will show what to do in under 3 minutes! 
 

Step by Step instructions

🌇 Step 1: Find the largest town. 
 
 
 
On the top toolbar click on the “Display town directory” button. This will open a new window. 
 
 
 
Change the sort by type from Name to Population using the drop down button. 
 
 
 
Change the sorting from Ascending to Descending by clicking on the triangle, now the town with the highest population will appear at the top. 
 
 

🛫 Step 2: Build an airport in the largest town. 
 
 
 
Click on the town with the largest population (in this example its Little Flubourne). This will take your game window to that town. 
 
 
 
Open the “Build Airports” window (near top right in tool bar). 
 
 
 
Click on “Build airport” to open the airport type window. For now all we can do is build a small airport. 
 
 
 
Change the “Coverage area highlight” to On. 
 
 
 
Choose a location for the airport as close to the town as possible, try to get as many buildings inside the blue squares as possible. Left click to build the airport.

🛬 Step 3: Build an airport in the second largest town. 
 
 
 
In the Towns windows click on the second largest town (in this example this would be Laningwell) 
 
 
 
Repeat step 2 and build another airport in the second largest town.

✈️ Step 4: Buy an airplane. 
 
 
 
Left click on one of the airport’s hangars to open the aircraft purchase menu for that airport. 
 
 
 
Click on the New Aircraft button. 
 
 
 
Browse through the different available aircraft until you find the aircraft with the highest Passenger capacity. In the temperate climate at the standard start year of 1950, this should be the Coleman Count. 
 
 
 
Purchase one of these aircraft by clicking on Buy Aircraft.

📑 Step 5: Give your airplane orders. 
 
 
 
Open Aircraft #1’s orders by clicking the order’s button on the aircraft’s control window (third icon from top on the right hand side of the window) 
 
 
 
Left click on the Go-To button. This will change your game cursor. 
 
 
 
In the game window move your cursor over your airport’s runway and left click on it. 
 
 
 
You should now see a “Go to <Town Name> Airport” command in your order list. 
 
 
 
In the Towns window, left click on the other town’s name to jump to it and your other airport. 
 
 
 
Repeat the Go To command on the second airport runway. 
 
 
 
We now need to tell our airplane to only leave the airport if is full of any cargo. To do this, left click on the first Go To command in the list. 
 
 
 
With the first order selected simply left click on the “Full load any cargo” button. 
 
 
 
Repeat this step for the select order. Left click on order #2, then click on full load any cargo. 
 
 
 
With your order’s complete, you can now close the orders window by clicking on the X button. 
 
 
 
Finally! We can start your airplane to make so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ money! To do this left click on the bottom toolbar that has the word “Stopped” in it. This will make our airplane go to the first order we gave it!

👬 Step 6: Clone Aircraft #1 
 
 
 
To complete our first transport system we should make a second aircraft starting from the other airport. To do this use the town directory to jump to the other city airport (the one without aircraft #1 sitting on the tarmac). Open that airport’s hangar menu by left clicking on the hangar roof. 
 
 
 
Left click on the “Clone Aircraft” button to change your cursor to the clone cursor. 
 
 
 
Move your mouse cursor onto Aircraft #1’s picture in the picture window and the left click to create Aircraft #2. 
 
 
 
Open Aircraft 2’s orders. 
 
 
 
Notice that the orders are copied from aircraft #1, all we need to do is tell aircraft #2 to start at the other airport (the one you built it from). To do this simply left click on the “Skip” button at the bottom. 
 
 
 
This will move the double triangles on the left of order one to the left of order 2. 
 
 
 
You can now close Aircraft #2’s orders and then start the airplane by clicking on “Stopped” in its control window! 🎉

Results

 
 
 
💸 PROFIT 
 
 
Watch the money roll in! This is the easiest way to get a steady supply of money in OpenTTD with little-to-no effort required. With this airport system set up, you’re free to explore all the other transport systems the game has to offer without having to worry too much about actually turning a profit early on. 
 
Without building anything else you will get your first million in under 5 years. Proof:

Alternatively look up some more advanced tutorials on how to play OpenTTD. Building train networks are fun but complicated. My advice is:
