Hello and welcome, We hope you find this No Man’s Sky – Tips for making money guide useful.

This guide will show you how to make the most of your money without ignoring barriers like physics, interstellar police force, or simple morals.

Intro

If you’re reading this then you want money. It’s not adventure or scientific exploration, but the sweet feeling of seeing the number in the upper left corner of your inventory increase. You don’t have to be a piratical expert, but we won’t be engaging in it. You can consult my other guide on how you deal with sentinels to learn the combat skills you need to survive any strategies I have included.

Getting Started

Here are some tips to help you get started

– Freighters. To get anywhere, you’ll need one. You won’t need one to get anywhere. With the expanded cargo hold and the options for a mobile base, you won’t have to be tied down so you can look for new opportunities elsewhere.

– Ships. A good ship is essential for scouting valuable systems and encountering NPC fleets to recruit frigates. Interceptors are my preferred choice due to their fuel economy and enhanced combat capabilities. However, a solar-class ship is also necessary to get the interceptor out and scout out because of the sail’s higher fuel economy. You want to spend as little time as possible gathering fuel and as much time as possible getting rich.

– Use multi-tools. You want to get fuel or other resources as quickly as possible. You will also need better weapons to eliminate sentinels for… many different reasons.

– Language. Talking with aliens is a great way to start capital. Talking with aliens is a great way to get some starting capital.

– Maps. You can find tons of loot, new ships and even upgrades at wrecked freighters or crash-landed starships. For even more money and ships, you could trade the ships you find. For even more money, you can also explore secure buildings.

Freighters and Why They’re Your Best Friend

Freighters are more than just a mobile base. They can dock spare ships and offer an even more important capability. The valuable loot from Frigate Expeditions is immense. 3 Cryo Chambers are worth 1,000,000 units. To get anywhere with this method, you will need to spend money (roughly 60m if you buy a new freighter or a new fleet) or less if your fleet is attacked by pirates. You will still have access to exotic materials such as Hot Ice, but you won’t need to pay anything. These resources can also be sold easily via a trade terminal.

Sentinels and Why You Should Hate Them

Ah, sentinels. Either you hate them or you get the Aeron Scourge title. They are not liked by anyone. Laylaps are the exception. That one is our favorite. Sentinels are the interstellar policing force created by the Atlas. The latest update states that corrupted sentinels are now possible to find in dissonant systems. You can also get rare interceptor class ship there. They also guard resources, which is more annoying and important. Either aggressive sentinels, or high alert sentinels, guard valuable resources like gravitino orbs. Harvesting these will make the sentinels more aggressive and try to neutralize your efforts. You have two options: fight or hide. These are covered in my other guide. However, you can use this opportunity to kill a walker (5 star desired level) and locate a sentinel colony. After you have eliminated the guards and pillars, all sentinels can be deactivated on the planet. This is your chance to collect all of the orbs and other amazing resources that are nearby. You can quickly send up resources and allow for longer collection periods by using a trade rocket. If you have completed the friendly sentinel mission, you can use the AI Minotaur as protection.

Smuggling, Piracy, and Other Crimes

NMS makes it easy to steal. Shoot at the cargo pods, and don’t let anything shoot at your. You can buy illegal goods in outlaw system (marked with a skull), and then bring them into other systems to make money. You can smuggle more goods into the system by using an interceptor with a built-in cargo scanner blocker. The problem is that other things may also want to do the same… but shooting them down will increase standing and give you loot like starshield batteries.

Nexus Missions

There are many missions that players can complete together in the Nexus. These missions give quicksilver as well as valuable resources that can be traded or used to create unique cosmetics. Cosmetics are great fun (I admit to enjoying customization a lot), but we need the money. Anything is possible, from Living Glass to Dreadnought Artificial Intelligences (used to obtain interceptors). You can also get units as an alternative reward. You can also keep some mission requirements (like fossils) sometimes.

“It Belongs on the Market”

You may have seen planets with natural grave sites. These sites contain fossils with a value ranging from 100k to 1m. To speed things up, you will need a Terrain Manipulator or an Exocraft. You can also find underground things like relics. This is a great way for you to make some money, but it’s not a quick fix.

Expeditions

Expeditions are not only fun, but also offer great rewards. You also get great phase rewards. Once you complete the expedition, your save will revert to a normal game and all the items you have gathered are retained. You can also delete the expedition save if you prefer to have a save that does not include any items you may have gathered. Simple.
