This is a quick guide to help you fix crashes when playing or loading into maps after selecting a higher effect / shading setting. It's still not possible to fix this issue on some PCs.
 

Only the Parameter

It's easy – just copy the following parameter and add it to your l4d2 steamgame launch options.

 
 
-force_vendor_id 0x10DE -force_device_id 0x0191
 
 
This parameter will allow you play again on higher settings on most computers, but there is a downside. It may reduce the overall framerate while using your flashlights at certain spots (depending upon your PC). But that's nothing to worry about.
 
 
Why make this guide when there are so many videos on youtube?
 
It was mostly because i was somewhat concearned that I had to always save my notepad on my computer with this parameter every time i wanted to use it. However, now it is saved online as an example for steam so i don't have to worry about saving a paper.
