Horizon Zero Dawn
There are 10 types of weapons in the game:
- Bows (Hunter, Sharpshot, War)
- Tripcaster
- Sling
- Blast Sling
- Ropecaster
- Rattler
- Tearblaster
- Stormslinger (DLC)
- Icerail (DLC)
- Forgefire (DLC)
Their gradation of rarity will be clear in the course of the guide.
In “New Game +” you can find original weapons, but already with a postscript in the name “Adept”. In fact, there is nothing special about them, they are all the same weapons from the normal game, only with improved characteristics. Therefore, they will not be discussed in this guide.
Bows
• Hunter Bow
The Hunter Bow is a type of bow specializing in short to medium range combat due to its faster reload and firing time, and has limited capacity for three types of damage: impact, elemental and tear. It can use three types of arrows.

• Sharpshot Bow
The Sharpshot Bow is a ranged weapon in Horizon Zero Dawn. It is a slow-firing yet highly accurate bow, and excels in long range combat where precision is required. Its arrows specialize in dealing high impact and tear damage, and consist of Precision, Tearblast, and Harvest Arrows.

• War Bow
The War Bow is a ranged weapon in Horizon Zero Dawn. It is a low damage bow that specializes in delivering elemental payloads to targets, forcing them into vulnerable states. This bow is best used in conjunction with other weapons due to its low impact and tear damage.

Tripcaster
The Tripcaster is a stealth weapon in Horizon Zero Dawn. It remotely places Tripwire traps between two horizontal points, either shocking them, burning them, or dealing blast damage when detonated. This weapon is more useful on larger machines, narrow spaces or tightly clustered groups of smaller enemies.

Sling
The Sling is a slow firing weapon in Horizon Zero Dawn that specializes in lobbing elemental payloads at targets and putting them into vulnerable states. Upon impact, the bombs leave a large area of the element on the ground. Due to its low damage output, it is advisable to use other weapons to follow up attacks on enemies.

Blast Sling
The Blast Sling is a ranged weapon in Horizon Zero Dawn. It is a slow-firing slingshot that lobs explosive bombs with impact, proximity or time-delayed trigger mechanisms in a parabolic arc. It is best used to deal high impact and area damage, and can be used in both aggressive and stealthy playstyles.

Ropecaster
The Ropecaster is a ranged weapon in Horizon Zero Dawn. It is a tool designed by the Nora tribe and used by hunters to deter and pin down targets.

Rattler
The Rattler is a ranged weapon in Horizon Zero Dawn. It is a short-ranged bolt gun that fires five projectiles per shot. It is best used when accuracy is not as crucial as landing multiple hits due to its large spread.

Tearblaster
The Tearblaster is a short-range ranged weapon that fires blasts of compressed air that easily s*rip armor and components from machines and stagger human and small machine enemies.
It is given as a reward upon the completion of the Hunters’ Blind side quest. However, as of patch 1.13, it has become available for purchase from certain merchants after completing the quest.
Ammo
The Tearblaster ammo pouch can hold up to 30 charges at a time if upgraded to maximum, while the weapon itself can hold 10 charges before needing to reload. The damage output of the Tearblaster is the same on all difficulties except Story Mode and Ultra Hard.
Stormslinger
The Stormslinger is a ranged weapon in Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds. It fires charged bolts which deal escalating damage in succession.
The Improved version has a larger ammo capacity and the ability to overcharge the weapon. When overcharging, the wielder will take shock damage, which becomes increasingly harmful with each overcharge level. Without sufficient shock protection, damage from overcharging can easily prove fatal.
Aloy first obtains the Stormslinger at the end of The Shaman’s Path in a box offered by Ourea inside the Retreat. The Improved version can be gained by bringing a basic one to Varga, starting Geared Up: Stormslinger for which the Improved weapon is the reward. Both versions can be purchased at any Special Merchant in The Cut after they’re obtained in the story.

Icerail
The Icerail is a close-ranged weapon in Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds. It fires a close-ranged attack that deals low amounts of damage but has high Freeze severity.
The weapon is first given to Aloy as reward for completing the quest For the Werak. It can later be purchased from Special Merchants in The Cut.
The Upgraded version can be first obtained by completing the quest Geared Up: Icerail, which afterward makes it available for purchase in The Cut’s special merchants.

Forgefire
The Forgefire is a close ranged weapon in Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds. It fires a close ranged attack that deals medium Fire damage and high Fire severity on impact and leaves a burning area that deals low Fire damage and severity over time. The improved version is capable of long range, Fireball-like projectiles called “Fire Bursters” which also deal Impact damage.
This weapon must be obtained by defeating a rogue Oseram, Ohlgrud, in the Cut’s only Bandit Camp, Stone Yield, while the improved version can be obtained by bringing the base weapon to Varga and completing the quest Geared Up: Forgefire.
Both can be purchased from the Cut’s special merchant afterwards.
