This is a quick guide to help you find the secretSettings.ini files for Forager on Steam Deck.
How to access "secretSettings.ini", the file for Forager on Steamdeck
You are probably here because you searched for the exact same thing as me and couldn't find it online. Or, you may be here because you know you are welcome.
As I said, I couldn’t find any information online about this. I assumed it was a Linux directory for the file. But, I was wrong. I found it, and it is different on the Steam Deck.
This guide will help you find the file. However, you will need another guide to learn more about the settings you can use.
What you should do
First, your Steam Deck won't auto-connect to your network if it is a little turd, like mine.
Make this a daily habit by pressing 'A' on the Wi-Fi icon.
Your network should already be saved. Simply search for your network and hit 'A'.
It may not connect the first attempt. This is normal. Just keep pressing 'A" on Connect.
It will eventually connect. It might be possible for the Wi-Fi icon to have a yellow exclamation point. This means that Steam Deck has not yet connected to Steam's servers. Give it time. It could be that Steam is experiencing server problems.
Another habit you should make is (if you have a Steam Deck that looks like mine). Sometimes you won't get signed into Friends and it won't want it to. This is not necessary for this guide but it takes very little time. This was something I had to do myself. It was a bit embarrassing, I admit.
Go to your profile at the top right and click 'A'.
Press 'A" where it says Signed out.
Select Online and hit 'A'.
This is it. You can now move on to the main menu.
Friends should sign in a bit later, I hope. My Steam Deck (is a little TURD) so it can be signed out of friends for a while. However, once I do this, I can quickly see my friend list. Why is this not working as it should?
Let's now get to the file you want.
Click the 'STEAM" button and then select the Power option. Press 'A'.
Next, click on the Switch to Desktop option. Finally, press 'A.
Wow! This thing can run my Steam games and it is an actual PC. Awesome, right? Yes. (You probably already know this, but it's still pretty amazing for those who are just learning.)
To move the mouse, you can use your Right Trackpad. Click the Right Trackpad and Left Click the mouse. If necessary, click the Left Trackpad and Right Click the mouse.
Now, you'll want to go to the taskbar and click on that blue icon that looks similar to a folder. It's called Dolphin.
This is the moment you have been waiting for. This window will allow you to navigate to the directory.
/home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/751780/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/Forager/
Deck is the default username. You can change it by changing deck to the new username.
Now that you have finally found the file you have been searching for, you can open it.
Now you can edit the file to your preference. Personally, I like mine set up like this so that I can actually see the game I'm trying.
If you don't know how to open the keyboard, hold the 'STEAM" button and press the 'X.
You're done. Click the icon at the top left of the screen that says Return to Gaming Mode.
Now, open the game.
