Baldur’s Gate III – Reaching almost 500,000 concurrent users on Steam

Okay, check this out. Baldur’s Gate 3, I knew it’d be big, but this? Wow. Two days out of the gate, and there are already over half a million people battling it out in Larian’s new D&D RPG, all at once on Steam. How wild is that?

Now, it didn’t outshine Counter-Strike: Global Offensive – the reigning champ with its million plus warriors – but hey, it’s getting there. And listen to this, it totally blew past big names like Naraka: Bladepoint, Grand Theft Auto 5, Apex Legends, Dota 2, and PUBG. No kidding!

Here’s the catch though: Baldur’s Gate 3 isn’t your typical game. It’s not free, it’s not multiplayer, and it’s the only one like it in the top five. And while everyone loves a bit of D&D, isometric party-based RPGs? Not usually the type of thing we all rush out to play, right?

Even the creators, Larian, are more of a cult favorite than a mainstream sensation. But hey, they’re definitely making waves now!

Launch day almost saw Baldur’s Gate 3 hit that 500K mark, but it was just a tad short. Maybe the massive 122GB download size held some folks back, you know? No preload time was offered, so launch day kinda turned into download day for some. No wonder the numbers really started to spike the next day!

Larian’s boss, Swen Vincke, shared on Twitter that this massive success “brought a tear to many eyes.” You bet it did! But it seems like the mounting player count is also making him a tad anxious.

Now, all these numbers? They’re just for Steam. You can also play Baldur’s Gate 3 on GOG, but the stats there are a mystery to us. Still, it’s safe to say, the total players are even more mind-blowing. It’s like a D&D world takeover!

Heads up, though. A patch for Baldur’s Gate 3 should be dropping later today. We’ll let you know when it lands and what it shakes up.
