This guide will demonstrate all of your future research options, and their benefits and provide some hints about specific technologies. I’ll add to it as I progress further into the research tree.

Void Train’s Wiki pages have fallen far behind. YouTube content and other online services like Reddit are similarly out-of-date, leaving many technologies and unlocks unaccounted for and out-of-date by up to three years. Although I cannot promise all technologies and unlocks in this guide will always remain current like its counterparts on wiki pages, I plan on keeping this guide more up-to-date than its corresponding Wiki pages.

Smelter, Container 1 – Container 1 has four slots, can also be renamed when placed.

Phase 2

Workbench 1, Basic Components 1, Copper Components

Phase 3

Lab 1, Chemical Components

Phase 4

Basic Components 2, Container Rack 1 – Container Rack 1 can hold two containers of any level.

Phase 5

Kitchen 1

Phase 6

Sterilizer, Bandage 1 – When you have Bandages in your inventory, you can hold Q to assign them to your quick use button, by default tapping Q.

Phase 7

Garden – You can get seeds from chests, found in secret locations.

Phase 8

Armory 1, Powder, Ammo Box – Armoury can be used to craft, and upgrade custom weapons from weapon parts you can obtain from killing Nazis, chests, and the Lotto machine.

Phase 9

Leather Suit 1, Armor Plate 1, Max Satiety 1 – Armor plates are used as a consumable in tandem with the Leather Suit, giving you extra, and stronger health bars. When you have Armor Plates in your inventory, you can hold Q to assign them to your quick use button, by default tapping Q.

Phase 10

Grappling Hook 1, Small Backpack, Charcoal – Your Grappling Hook is used by equipping it in one of your weapon slots, either slot 1 or 2. Has a unique highlight around the cross hair when it is in range of an item, (have to be standing/walking to see it).

Phase 11

Crusher, Pressing, Water Bidon, Ram 1 – Ram 1 is added to the Train at a Depot.

Phase 12

Steam Engine – Added to the Train at a Depot.

Phase 13

Smelter 2, Zinc Extraction, Brass Casting

Phase 14

Workbench 2, Brass Wire, Brass Pipe, Container 2 – Container 2 has six slots, can also be renamed when placed.

Phase 15

Boiler Upgrade 1, Ammunition 1 – Ammunition increases your maximum ammo count.

Phase 16

Lab 2, Thickener, Sturdy Wood

Phase 17

Gatherer’s Station, Damper, Winch Drive – Gatherer’s Station is operated by Rofleemos, which are unlocked when you reach a certain gate number. The Winch is unlocked when you reach a certain gate number, along with obtaining the Throwing Rings to use with the Winch slightly after.

Phase 18

Boiler Upgrade 2, Traction 1

Phase 19

Train Armor, Max Health 1, Effective Cooling – Train Armor is applied to train decor unlocked via feeding Rofleemos mushrooms.

Phase 20

Acid Gathering, Rubber, Sturdy Leather, Leather Suit 2 – Acid is obtained by fighting in arenas, found along side the track. Leather Suit 2 is able to hold two armor plates.

Phase 21

Boiler Upgrade 3, Traction 2

Phase 22

Fertilizer, Armory 2, Ammo Container 1, Explosive Powder Armory 2 allows you to obtain and use weapon cores, which give weapons a certain alternate fire mode depending on the weapon core.

Phase 23

Gasoline Gathering, Gasoline Canister, Mineral Oil, Medium Backpack – Medium Backpack gives you six extra inventory slots, and one heavy slot.

Phase 24

Diesel Engine, Ammunition 2 – Diesel engine is added to the Train at a Depot. Ammunition 2 further increases max ammo count.

Phase 25

Ram 2, Kitchen 2, Metabolism 1 – Ram 2 is added to the Train at a Depot.

Phase 25

Winch Accelerator, Advanced Drilling – The Winch is unlocked when you reach a certain gate number, along with obtaining the Throwing Rings to use with the Winch slightly after.
