Biomes

Biomes are an important part of both the game and my guide, because I will constantly mention their names in the description of items, bosses, etc.
In the game there are such biomes as:
1. “Meadows” – in this biome you appear. Distinguished by light green grass and a large number of trees (in comparison with the “Plains”). Grow such trees as beech, oak and birch. You can find abandoned houses and villages. Of the inhabitants: greylings, wild boars, deer, gulls, crows.
2. “Black Forest” – biome, which will be heavier than the first, because almost all the fauna is aggressive. It is also worth noting that at night dramatically increases number of gravedorffs, which could be a problem for beginner players. Distinguished by the dark green grass. There are trees such as pines and firs growing there. You can find deposits of copper and tin, as well as crypts, troll caves, ruined towers with graidworms and skeletons, and graidworm spawners. Of the inhabitants: 3 kinds of graidworffs, trolls, skeletons, deer.
3. “Swamps” – biome with 100% aggressive inhabitants and partially hampered movement. Distinguished by the brown color of the soil, fragmented land and shallow bodies of water. Trees such as fir and old-growth trees grow. You can find deposits of iron, towers with skeletons and draugrs, crypts, abandoned houses, spawners of draugrs and skeletons, and pillars of fire (spawners of sturlings). Of the inhabitants: leeches, ghosts, draugrs, skeletons, slime sturlings.
4. “Mountain” – biome-death for players without permanent protection from the cold. Distinguished by snow, blizzards, constant cold damage, steep slopes (in a word mountain). Only fir trees grow. You can find deposits of obsidian, iron, silver, abandoned houses, towers and forts with skeletons and dragons, clutches with dragon eggs. Of the inhabitants: wolves, werewolves, stone golems, dragons, *draugrs and skeletons (only in towers and forts).
5. “Plains” – biome with serious opponents. Distinguished by the light green color of the soil, in fact, plains, menhirs and a bunch of goblin villages. Growing birches and bushes. You can find goblin villages, cromlechs with berserkers and fields. Of the inhabitants: goblins, berserkers, bullsuckers, death mosquitoes, *skeletons*.
6. “Ocean” – a wet biome. Distinguished by water and the inscription on the mini-map. Probably grows algae. You can find floating blocks of mollusks (blocks of these sink from time to time, and the mollusks are conditional deposits of chitin, they are just like stones). Of the inhabitants: snakes, fish.
7. The Foggy Land – an unfinished biome, completely empty.
8. Far North – also unfinished biome, but not empty. Distinguished by the same as the “mountain”, but has a more even relief. Growing fir. You can find the edge of the world). Of the inhabitants: wolves, werewolves, skeletons, goblins.
9. Ashland(Ashland) – also unfinished biome, but not empty. Distinguished by the red color of the soil, the temperature is growing. Can find deposits of flamethrower. Of the inhabitants: Sturlings.

“PART ONE OF THE GUIDE”

Getting Started (Beginners Only)

And so the first is the beginning of the game. After creating your character and the opening credits, you watch as the Valkyrie carries you to the start of your TRUE but interesting life.
Valheim - Guide for Beginners

You get to the Circle of Stones, on which in the future we will hang trophies from the bosses.
Valheim - Guide for Beginners

There we also meet Hugin, who will give us hints as we master the game and discover something new.
Valheim - Guide for Beginners

The first thing I advise you to open the map (Y/m by default) and look because there where you flew already explored terrain, it may be useful if you got a rare sid world, but it’s a matter of luck. Be sure to read the sign so you mark the location of the first boss.
Valheim - Guide for Beginners

Next, gather resources for the axe and hammer, the required amount of materials can be seen on the right in the inventory (tab by default).
And so you picked up wood and stone, in the upper left corner there are notifications about new recipes for crafting.
Valheim - Guide for Beginners

Here you have an axe in your hand, you most likely saw members of the local fauna, boars, deer or graylings. Deer, fish and small birds are not hostile even if you attack them, which cannot be said about boar or graylings. Grayling is 1 completely hostile mob, which is not difficult to deal with even with your fists.
Valheim - Guide for Beginners

Boar in general is conditionally neutral, as long as you keep away from him he will not touch you. Boars are an important source of resources at all “stages of the game”, because they fall from the skin scraps and meat itself.

Food and statuses.

It’s a little late, but we got to the characteristics. The main characteristics are 2 – Health and endurance. With health at first glance everything is clear, but how to increase it? The answer is not trivial, you have to eat, food increases the characteristics at a certain time. For example the first food that can be eaten without prior preparation and found near the spawn – berries or mushrooms. Mushrooms give you a performance boost of – 15 xp and 20 stamina for 600 seconds. Also you should understand that you can eat only 3 different kinds of food, and can not eat the same kind of food again until the icon food (eg mushroom) near the Hp bar in the lower left corner is not flashing, then you can eat either the same or another kind of food, but not the one that has already eaten (ate you mushroom, later berry, mushroom began flashing, berry still no, in that case, you can not eat berry). Eat you mushroom which increases the health by 15 units, the maximum health limit increased health (I will talk on the example of health as it has a numeric indicator, the standard is 25 xp) and health began to rise to kolvnoho xp\v tick of the description of the item. And so, after some time health, reaches the maximum number of eaten products, say for mushroom 40 units. At this point, half the time passes out of the description (600 seconds boost from the mushroom, so it was 300 seconds) and begins the opposite process that was the first 300 sec. Health begins to go down to the standard, from about 25%+- time indicator blinks, it is a sign that you can fortify.
And what about endurance? In my opinion this is the most important characteristic, if at 25 Hp you can run, hit and jump, then when you run out of stamina – problems begin. And until you do not have at least fried meat, mushrooms and glowing mushrooms, will be difficult, then of course particularly easy will not be, but still. Stamina is used everywhere, from construction, to archery, to swimming, to chopping trees.

Construction and Crafting.

Craft a construction hammer. Then put it in the slot menu (1-8). Select and right-click (by default), you will open the construction menu. To start look around the tabs there are 4, and go to the tab craft there you will see the first cooking station (roasting meat) and the first table tinker, he is what we need. At him to collect 10 wood, and then select and place in a place of our camp or full-fledged residence. By the choice of location strongly recommend a serious approach. Of course you can build anywhere and then wander from place to place, but I recommend the following:

1. Construct not far from the spawn, but not too close to the 1 boss (otherwise may suffer property, very) they are usually close. We need this in order to first constantly not to clash with enemies from the next biome “Black Forest” (the starting “Meadows”), and secondly on the not run far and do not waste time because the portals are still far away.

2. Since the game is still in early access, not all moments are perfect, I advise you to disable vegetation for it will be like the screenshot below.
Valheim - Guide for Beginners

3. Try to find as flat area as possible or with luck, so it was with me, an abandoned village of at least a couple of houses, as under them will be (how many houses) a few perfectly flat areas, and ready-made houses in which to patch the roof and fix the structure, you can live the first time, and then disassemble and build their own.

Fixing Things.

By now you probably have a bunch of broken axes and a couple of hammers? These can be repaired using the workbench, you can only do this if you move it to a room with a roof and walls. It is not necessary to collect 10 more wood on a new workbench, just get a “hammer” point and click the mouse wheel, this way you can remove any structures in the workbench area (PUNCTURE circle white), only workbench and structures created without its participation can be removed without it. Now you got the opportunity to use the workbench to its full (well, almost =) ). Namely, you can create, improve and repair things.

“AN IMPORTANT ASPECT OF THE MECHANICS OF THE GAME”

Skills and their impact on gameplay

Before moving on to Shields and Weapons, it is necessary to explain some of the parameters of these item categories.
We should start with skills. Skills, as I briefly wrote earlier, are for almost all “actions” in the game. Namely:
1. “Running” – Appears and is pumped when you run (default “shift” + “w,s,d,a”). Affects the speed of running and the cost of stamina for running. At the value of 100 you will feel a slight breeze.
2. “Jump” – Appears and is pumped when jumping (“space bar” by default). Affects the height of the jump. At the value of 100 is sometimes an injury-prone activity.
3. “Swimming” – Appears and is pumped when entering the water and swimming. Affects stamina consumption while swimming. At the value of 100 the difference in the consumption of endurance from 0 is barely noticeable, most and never pump up to 30 because it is extremely long and useless.
4. “Stealth” – It appears and pumped when you enter stealth mode and walking near the creatures. At 100 you can easily walk around (in stealth mode, of course) among the crowds of enemies, I approached close to them.
5. “No Weapon” – Appears and is pumped at the fist strike. At the value of 100 deals 4.8 damage to wild boar (at 0 for comparison, 2 damage) -_-
6. “Axes” – Appears and is pumped when fighting with an axe. Affects the damage and a little (7% less stamina spent at level 100) on the consumption of stamina on impact.
7. “Clubs” – Appears and is pumped when fighting with mace-type weapons (also torch is a club). Affects damage and a little (7% less stamina spent at level 100) on stamina consumption at impact.
8. “Spears” – Appears and is pumped when fighting with a spear. Affects damage and slightly (7% less stamina spent at level 100) on stamina cost at impact.
9. Knives – Appears and is pumped when fighting with a knife. Affects damage and slightly (7% less stamina spent at level 100) on stamina cost at impact.
10. “Bows”. – Appears and is pumped when shooting a bow. Affects the range, speed, stamina cost for string tension and damage.
11. “Swords” – Appears and is pumped when fighting with sword Affects damage and a little (7% less stamina spent at level 100) on stamina cost at imFor pact.
12. “Club Weapon” – Appears and is pumped when combating with Halberd. Affects damage and slightly (7% less stamina spent at level 100) on stamina consumption at impact.
13. “Pickaxe” – Appears and is pumped when extracting rock with a pickaxe. Affects the damage of the “rocks” (in other words, the speed of rock mining).
14. “Chopping of Trees” – Appears and is pumped when chopping trees. Affects the damage on the tree (more simply, the rate of tree extraction)
15. “Blocking” – Is created and pumped by blocking enemy attacks (not necessarily by shield, you can block with weapon as well, but less effectively). It should also be noted that each hit on the block takes stamina, when it runs out you can not block and will receive full damage.

For example
shields

Have 2 values of the parameter “Power of blocking” (hereinafter “parameter”), namely a static value (without brackets) and “floating” (yellow in brackets), which depends on the skill “blocking”. So to explain how the “blocking mechanics” works, let’s take as an example the first shield available to us – the “Wooden shield”, which has a static “parameter” equal to 20 without upgrades. We know that the maximum threshold for any skill is 100 (0-100). Suppose that the skill “blocking” pumped at 100, then putting on our shield with a static parameter 20, the value in brackets will be, 30, if 0 – 20. This gives us to understand that 100 levels of blocking gives us a 50% increase to “parameter”. For another example, let us take the second shield available to us – the “Wooden Tower Shield”, which has the “parameter” equal to 35. As long as we conditionally have the 100th level of blocking and we know that this gives us 50% of the “parameter”, we can calculate the following: divide 35 by 2, we get 17.5, add to 17.5 35, we get 52.5. In the game the number displayed will be 53. This is due to the fact that the game code has a lot of fractional numbers, and the game engine always rounds them up.

Regarding
weapons

The principle is the same, only it works “from the other side.
What do I mean by that? Let’s denote the principle of “blocking” as follows: “from 0 to 1”, where 0 corresponds to the zero level of “blocking” skill, and 1 – level 100. The main difference between the weapons is in changing the “floating value of parameters” (yellow in brackets). The weapon can be called “-1 to 0”.
How is this expressed? When we look at the “floating value of parameter” of a shield, with a “static value” of 35, then at the “blocking” skill level of 0 the “floating value” will be 35, at the level of 100 it will be 53. That is, we go from “static value” to its increase. And for weapons, we go from a lower “value” to “static”. Let’s take the Silver Mace for example, which with a blocking skill level of 0 and a “static stun damage value” of 35 has a “floating range” (yes here the damage range is from x to y) from 9 to 19, which means we won’t deal 35 damage no matter how hard we try, also the Silver Mace has extra damage: From cold(ice, static 58, floating 14-32) and damage on undead(spirit, static 20, floating 5-11) which just like the main damage is scaled depending on the skill level ( in this case “clubs”). And if we pump the skill “bludgeon” to 100, our stun damage (and 2 others) will change from a range of 9-19 to 30-35 ( for ice becomes 49-58, and for spirit 17-20).
We can see that when we increase ANY attack skill, the damage range tends to the static weapon parameter.

Metal mining

To extract metals, you need a pickaxe. The first pickaxe we can craft only after killing the 1st boss from the “hard horn”.
Any metal can be extracted from the corresponding deposits.
There are several such deposits, namely:
1. Tin deposits. Can be found in the “Black Forest” on the banks of the river and the shore of the open sea(ocean).
Valheim - Guide for Beginners

2. Copper deposits. A large stone with golden streaks. Can be found in the “Black Forest” as well as at the foot of the “Mountain”.
Valheim - Guide for Beginners

3. A pile of dirty scrap (conventionally iron ore. Scrap metal). It looks like a brown pile with metal veins and skeleton bones. Can be found in the Crypts on the “Swamps” or underground on the “Swamps”. In addition to Scrap Metal, you can also get “Dried Bone”, “Skin Scraps” and “Bone Debris”.
Valheim - Guide for Beginners

4. Silver deposits (silver vein). Located underground in the “Mountains” mainly at the top. Quite large in volume. U-shaped stone with large veins of silver color.
Valheim - Guide for Beginners

5. Obsidian deposits. Located in the “Mountains” on the surface like tin. Can only be mined with an iron pickaxe.
Valheim - Guide for Beginners

6. Flamethrower deposits. Located on the surface of the Ashes Land biome and protected by the Sturlings.
Valheim - Guide for Beginners

There is also a meteorite from which you can get iron ore (6 pieces) .

“PART TWO OF THE GUIDE”

Bossiness.

Well I hope you’re not a “newbie” and have already come a long way, learned the basics through the ups and downs, killed a dozen other trees or them you, tried going up a mountain, realized the cold kills, died a couple of times I guess.
And so it’s time to up the ante, and the Bosses will help us with that. There are as many as five at the moment, believe me that’s a lot if you’re playing solo. You can read Nordic tales about them in the Circle of Stones from the very start of the game. But you won’t find out the name, location, (except for 1 boss), or how to summon them. It’s time to start the long preparation for this feat. The feat here is not only killing the boss, but also finding pointers to the location of the augusts. For you have to travel a lot, in places where if you have less than 100 xp and not pumped up to 4 levels of bronze set with a deer cloak, you do not get to the bosses, let alone the fight itself.
Also worth considering that the game is based on Norse mythology, and the author’s intention, I suppose, to stimulate interest in the subject. Personally, I know all the mythology of Scandinavia long ago, and for those who do not know, I advise to read, and for himself useful and interesting to play. So, interpret the mythology and spend text on it will not be more, who is interested himself will find.
I will say only this is a beautiful tree on the screenshot below is Yggdrasil, extremely important thing for mythology.
Valheim - Guide for Beginners

List of bosses

1. The first and the easiest, but very important boss is – Eiktur, simply boss Deer.
2. The second is called – Ancient, the coolest tree in all the wild and not so north. Relatively uncomplicated boss, gives a nice bonus for those who have not yet built the “Hall of Honey.
3. The third boss is Mass of Bones, or as I call it, the diarrhea boss. Incredibly important, to go to chapter 4 and the good life.
4. Fourth boss – Mowder, the dragon(s). A masthead for later chapters, a beautiful boss.
5. Fifth boss – Jaglut, as heavy as Mike Tyson’s right hook. Skeleton, it hurts…

I will not write here all about the bosses, so that you do not lose interest in the game.

And that’s it, I’ve told you everything I know, and I hope my story will be useful to you:)

Hope you enjoy the Guide about Valheim – Guide for Beginners, if you think we should add extra information or forget something, please let us know via comment below, and we will do our best to fix or update as soon as possible!
