About This Guide

Difficulty Selection

It is important to note the Mission difficulty selection. Mission difficulty 0 is missing all story elements except data fragments. One audio log does not appear at difficulty 1. Difficulty 3 ends the game after 7 hours. This is not a great time for free exploration.

It is recommended that you play Mission difficulty 2 as it includes all story elements but does not have a time limit of 7 hours.

Cyberspace is the only other difficulty setting that matters. Setting it to 0 or 1, removes the auto propulsion, making maneuvering easier. However, at 0 no enemies attack and at 1, combat is made easier so it might be less exciting.

What's Included?

Audio Logs

These are the main conveyors of the story about what happened while Hacker was in cryosleep. These are added to the LOGS tab of the Multimedia Data Reader (MD). They can be voiced but also display text that can been shortened using the "Terse” setting for "Text Length" in game options. However, neither text length matches the voices.

Notes

There are notes on paper scattered throughout Citadel Station. These notes, not audio logs, provide additional background information. They cannot be picked up so you will have to read them immediately, rather than searching for a safe place to read them. They can also be destroyed if they are attacked. These story elements were also included in the transcriptions at the end.

Data Objects

These are represented in Cyberspace by spinning pink blocks. These provide general information about Cyberspace and Citadel Station. They are added to MDR's DATA tab.

Data Fragments

These are represented in Cyberspace by yellow squares with four orange-colored diamonds at their corners. These are only tiny snippets of information that give a glimpse into the story. They are not added to MDR and can only be accessed while in Cyberspace. These short stories were also included in the transcriptions at the end.

Emails

These voicemails are sent to Hacker after completing certain tasks. They are accompanied with an audio cue and flashing visual notifications and are added to EMAIL tab in MDR. They are on the MDR so I thought I'd include them. These are also affected when you choose to change the text length.

V-mails

These are short video messages that appear after you complete certain tasks. These messages are added to the MDR's EMAIL tab. These can't be overlooked, just like the emails. However, they are on the MDR so I'm including. These video mails have accompanying text, which can be altered by the text length option.

Why Transcriptions Data Fragments and Notes?

They are not added to the MDR so I thought it would be easier than going through all the levels again to find one that you might have missed.

Maps

System Shock: Enhanced Edition - All audio logs and notes location - About This Guide - 761159D

Each map contains blue squares that indicate points of interest. The letters to the right of these squares indicate the location of audio logs in the MDR. Some maps also display numbers that indicate the location of paper notes. These numbers are not necessarily in a particular order. If there is a Cyberspace data object or fragment, the Terminals that these elements are located in will be displayed on the map with either "@", or "#".

An index of audio log titles will be included with each map. This will make it easier for you to locate any particular log and also provide text descriptions of the locations. Cyberspace is divided into a linear series of rooms and connecting data currents. These currents automatically propel you through the rooms. Any data objects or fragments that are found in Cyberspace will be listed with their terminal number and room number.

Citadel Station has one of the highest Security Ratings known to exist in space. It is equipped with a battery DEX-38 missiles and 8 short-range argon suspension lasers. The station also has the state-ofthe-art Tachyon Laser Miner Beam, which can be easily modified for military purposes. Over 200 security guards are equipped with sparq-beams and Triop Minipistols. Skorpion guns are given to guards who are located in sensitive areas. In the event of invasions using Powered Battle Armor, the armories are equipped with Mag-Pulse weapons. The Plasma Rifle is also being developed. When fully designed, it will be the most powerful hand weapon in existence.

Engineer's Report — Arnold Hessman 22.SEP.72

As I was afraid, SHODAN's malfunctions have begun to manifest in Citadel's cyberspace network. Many storage rooms and lockers have been sealed with controls that can only be accessed in cyberspace. Some codes to sensitive areas of the station have been encoded onto data fragments. Although all personnel who can enter cyberspace are authorized to do so, I am concerned about the security risk. I will make sure that SHODAN has cyberspace defense programs to protect potential intruders from cybertoggles and floating data.

Medical Report — Aaron Talbot 29.SEP.2072

Today, four more cases of the mystery virus were reported. There are increasing rumors that this whole mess may be due to a problem in the experimental biolabs. If true, why aren't they telling me anything that could help the victims? My first patient, who arrived two days ago, is beginning to show unsettling physical deformities. He is also not responding to conventional treatment. Tomorrow, I will consult with Dr. Stackhouse — I know she has two patients with similar conditions.

Engineer's Report — Jon David Wong 17.SEP.72

All science-level engineers, please note that I am still unable pinpoint the source of the power surges observed in Beta Quadrant. However, they may be related to other recent problems in SHODAN's operation. Mr. Endicott asked me to install circuit breakers in Alpha Quadrant for power outages in Beta.

Negotiations with the United Earth Mines' Conglomerate continue to be positive over rights to Saturn’s moons. Trioptimum is in a unique position to make a deal. Citadel Station is already in stable orbit and has the scientific equipment required for preliminary surveys. Profit projections based on a 30% stake at UEM's local mining activities ((), the standard rate for such deals, are very promising. Trioptimum technically holds the first rights to space shipping lanes within the Saturn sector. Our lawyers are investigating the legality and legality of imposing an 4% shipping tax.

Trioptimum understands that life aboard Citadel Station can sometimes be stressful. We invite you to visit the Citadel Eco-Pods (also known as the 'Groves') if you feel tired after a long day at work. Groves are outdoor environments that simulate natural ecosystems. They include grassy hills, flora from Earth, and harmless woodland animals. After a long day of Engineering or Security, a relaxing walk in the Grove can be a great way to unwind. You will feel refreshed and ready to tackle another productive day.

Trioptimum Security Report — 10.oct.2072

Since yesterday morning, the rioting at the residential level has not subsided. Unexpectedly, the rioters resisted a security team that was sent out 12 hours ago. Some members of the security team claimed the mob had broken into weapons lockers, and had armed itself. Worse, reports claimed that some of the rioters had engaged in skirmishes with 'oddly-formed beings'. These reports are not supported by evidence, but their coincidence with the biolab fiasco of two weeks ago is alarming.

We have completed the installation of an ETU (Experimental teleportation unit) in your new quarters, per your SHODAN authorization order. Its second terminus can be found near the elevator to maintenance level. Any object with sufficient weight (50 Kilgrams) will activate the ETU. The ETU is still being tested. We urge extreme caution when using the ETU.
