What you will need:

  • Windows computer with Steam and Moonbase Alpha installed
  • Access to your router’s settings

To start, you should install Anydesk or your favorite remote access tool on the server computer and your computer. For this guide, we’ll be using Anydesk.

Start up Anydesk and on the server computer, set it up for unattended access in the settings.

Now name the server by starting the game up, creating a normal server with the name you want, then close it.

Make sure Steam is running and that you’ve port forwarded it via your router settings. For whatever reason, UPnP doesn’t work with a dedicated server.

Connect to it and press the Windows key and R and type in “cmd” into the run box.

Then type your server command. Example:
“C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\moon base alpha\Binaries\Win32\MoonBaseAlphaGame.exe” server mba_1_2?freeplay=1

If you want to change the map, change the “1_2” to “2_4” “5_6” or “madness.” You can also set a custom player limit by adding “?Game=MoonBaseAlphaGame.MBA_GameInfoExtended?MaxPlayers=20”

Then press enter. If it doesn’t start, either MBA isn’t installed or it’s in Program Files. Try removing “(x86).” You can also create a .bat file with the command to make launching easier.

Check that the server is running by opening the game and looking under “Internet.”

Hope this helps revive the game a little. I used to run spayce and shut that down because nobody ever used it.
