I’m sure many of you are already making a name for yourselves in Night City. But this is a gigantic metropolis with a lot of secrets waiting to be discovered. Among these secrets are the iconic items meant to provide you with extra power for the challenging encounters that await you. These items can be of any rarity that’s green or higher, and in most cases, they can be upgraded. Here is a list of the iconic gear I found so far, but please be aware that there might be some spoilers ahead:
Dying Night
You can quickly get this pistol after you exit your apartment for the first time. Just pass by the 2nd Amendment gun store on your way to the elevator. Wilson, the store’s owner, will tell you that your gun is ready, which will start a short mission called The Gun. To complete it, just simply pick-up Dying Night from his catalog for free.
Chaos
This tech pistol can only be obtained during The Pickup’s main story mission. You have to kill Royce, one way or another, and loot it from his body.
Fenrir
To acquire this power smg, visit the Downtown docks. There is a troubled monk in the market there which will give you a mission called Sanctum Profanum. After you deal with all the Maelstrom goons in the mission’s area, you can pick Fenrir from a table left by the monk’s brother.
Kongou
Kongou is a powerful pistol that can be missed. You’ll get it during the main story mission, The Heist. While you are in the Tavernier Suite (the penthouse) section, look on the right nightstand in the bedroom area. You’ll spot the pistol there.
Cocktail Stick
This katana can be obtained during the Automatic Love main story mission while you investigate the Clouds building. After you talk with Tom on the 2nd floor, pass by the bar and walk to the door that leads towards Woodman’s office. In the following corridor, turn left and opened the first door you see. In this room, two dolls are having a conversation in front of a mirror. You’ll find Evelyn’s jacket, which prompts a dialogue with Johnny Silverhand and, close to it, the Cocktail Stick katana.
Zetatech Berserk Mk.5
This operating system implant can be installed for 43750 eddies at Dr. Chrome’s (Robert’s) ripper doc shop in the Kabuki market area.
Sir John Phallustiff
Sir John Phallustiff is a gag melee weapon that can only be obtained if you met with Meredith Stout and agreed with her terms during The Pickup’s main story mission. Later down the line, she will thank you for your cooperation via a message. Replying to her prompts a short and passionate mission called Venus in Furs. After completing it, you’ll find a parting gift on the bed. Keep in mind that if you haven’t talked with Meredith before going into Maelstrom’s compound or you tried to trick her, you won’t be eligible for the follow-up mission, which rewards you the weapon.
Scalpel
This katana is given as a reward for completing the side mission, Big in Japan. You can grab this mission in the Afterlife bar during the game’s second act from an NPC named Dennis. He is located next to Rogue’s booth.
Plan B
You’ll find this power pistol in a place that’s all too familiar. To avoid any major spoilers, I would say that you can easily find its location under the Kold Mirage side mission’s guidance. When you are there, check the body lying on the ground.
Cottonmouth
This one-handed club can be obtained only during the Space in Between main story mission. When you pay a visit to Fingers, the ripperdoctor, make sure to look at his bed. The bedroom cannot be accessed anymore after finishing the mission.
Widow Maker
Widow Maker is yet another iconic gun obtained during the main story. First off, you must agree to help Panam with her problem during the Ghost Town mission. If you do, you can pick up this tech precision rifle from Nash’s body. Just don’t miss it, because you won’t be able to get it afterward.
Problem Solver
This is one of the two iconic guns obtainable during Panam’s first side story mission, Riders on the Storm. Problem Solver has the Wraith Boss Hunter guarding the ground floor of the garage building. The garage is the first building to the right as you enter from the main gate.
Overwatch
You’ll get teased with this power sniper rifle during the early jobs with Panam. But unlike most iconic guns in the game, this one cannot really be missed. As long as you decide to help Panam with the Riders on the Storm side mission, you will receive Overwatch as a reward at the end of it.
Stinger
After helping Panam with the Riders on the Storm side mission, you’ll receive a message from Mitch Anderson. Go to the Aldecaldos nomad camp and look for Mitch on a hill next to it. I agree to help him start the mission I’ll Fly Away, which has this iconic knife as a reward.
Ending note
This list is far from being complete as I’m only about 36 hours into the game. But I will continue updating it with any items I find.
