A relatively fast guide to playing or discovering imposters.

The Game and your role in it

There is basically 2 modes atm, and they are the crewmen and the imposters. The crewmen’s job is to fix/repair everything in the stations/ship and/or figure out the imposter(s). The imposter’s role is to sabotage or kill crewmen. There are several ways to go about each.

There are 3 maps atm and 3 game mode types or rather 3 different settings:

-1 imposter = for the most seasoned imposter vets but it can be played casually depending on how many players there are. anywhere from 4-6 is optimal, and 7+ you have more room for error
-2 imposters = neutral. Both teams have 1 imposter to every 4 crewmen. Actually more fun if you have another imposter vouching for you. Having an extra imposter vote help is the difference between being exiled or not; and vice versa for another non-imposter player.
-3 imposters = for the most seasoned crewmen since 3 imposters can easily wipe out your team and kill in packs of 3 or more. Their votes can also outvote you.

2 and 3 imposters only show up if enough players are present. If not, you get default 1 (on 2 imposters) or 2 (on 3)

The Crewmen

As the crewmen, you’re the main “good” guys. You’re just there to fix stuff/repair things, and then some alien imposter comes into your ranks and starts systematically killing you. There are some ways to make good use of crewmen:

-fixing and repairing things.
-calling emergency meetings
-locating dead bodies
-using the scanners or security systems to track people

Each person has 4 goals they gotta complete to finish the game. Once everyone completes them, the crewmen win automatically.

If you’re unlucky enough to die by an imposter, your ghost can continue doing the tasks and finish your role. The tasks completed by each person can be shown above in the green tasks completed bar.

The imposter(s)

Ah yes, the flip side the killers; The Imposters. They look like crewmen, but they aren’t. Their role is to kill off the crewmen via environmental hazards or systematically until there is only 1 (when there is 1 imposter), 2 (when there are 2 imposters), or 3 (when there are 3 imposters). There are several ways to do this:

-flat out murdering people by being close enough to them. Just like in TF2 with spy backstab, the imposter kills any crewmen automatically. Well, for you, on the crewman’s screen, they show a random death scene. You can use darkness and vents to your advantage to hide from people or to teleport (vents) from one area to another.
-sabotaging. You can bring up the map screen and click on doors or areas to sabotage (like electrical light switches, oxygen tanks, and reactors). Note only 1 non-door area can be sabotaged at a time, and when they are, you can’t sabotage anything else until crewmen fix them. There is also a cooldown for doors.

note that each has a cooldown default of about 30 seconds

strategies

Each has its own strategies, but tbh they’re interchangeable.

crewmen:
-go in pairs. It’s harder to kill both of you. Even if there’s 3 you can usually body search and blame one of them, pick off 1 or 2 imposters
-keep an eye on the security monitors, vital scans, map, sensor bars, etc. It can usually tell you where everyone is, and if someone suddenly goes from one room to another a couple of feet away, you got a sus (sus=suspect)
-discover a body. Chances are if you find it, you won’t be blamed as much though it’s a double-edged sword
-keep an eye on vents in the rooms
-always be closer to the emergency button in the cafeterias
-defend allies whenever possible, even if it’s just 1 person
-learn task areas and learn when people are completely off from a task area
-Even if you die, you can still do tasks. Do them.

imposter (1):
-kill and keep moving
-pick off the solo ones far away from people
-idling may help in some cases, especially if you’re near the cafeteria
-act a bit angry (IRL too, if you get accused and are angry, you’re more likely guilty than if you makeup excuses or start breaking down)
-pin the crime on someone else PLUS defend someone else (make sure you get their location correctly, so keep an eye on people who run past you)
-killing then discovering the body can act like above
-use vents discretely, or rather, if you use them to stay in them a bit until you see someone go away
-learn the tasks by memory so you can fake using the machines
-if sabotage sometimes, try to fix them. It’ll take the heat off you, trust me.
-never seal yourself out of the door chances are you can’t open it, and thus it’s harder to remain undetected

imposters (2-3):
-never rat out your allies
-pickup on signals like if one of them accuses someone else adds to it
If they get accused, try to fight back a bit but not too much and go with the flow and vote for them. If you get a majority vote for them
-that being said, being a sacrificial pawn so your other imposter allies can continue
-before you do accuse 1-2 people of planting the seeds of mistrust
-defend your imposter buddies, BUT also 1 random person who isn’t. It may help in the longer run
-never use vents at the same time
-if possible, stick to a group and pick off people 1 by 1, then go in different directions and kill people who get too close to the body. Then call a body found to use it to your advantage
-try to repair sabotages now and then. Trust me; it takes the heat off both or all 3 of you.
-when you die, you can still interact. Try to split up the group and cause disasters so people can drop what they’re doing and go towards them instead.

-this rarely works, but when it does, it’s solid. Accuse each other (all 3 in a triangle) of being an imposter or 1 to 1 and last person to someone random. Say some ♥♥♥♥ like if I die, it’s X. people will be so focused on that they’ll not notice or be able to put other numbers/variables into the formula and keep on if X dies it’s Y’s fault.

on any imposters:
-agree when someone says X is the imposter. Chances are, if they get it wrong, they’ll become suspicious and can be voted on next time.
-o2 and nuclear reactors are more for faster-paced pickings of the person in the back of the pack. Lights and communications are more for easier pickings, but people may still stick together.

for either or:
-try to keep info concise and quick
-typing multiple messages is a bit better than long ones
-insist if you think somethings wrong, or someone’s suspicious
-keep an eye on dead allies’ stress, and tension builds up the less there is left.
-visual tasks mean if someone does say a medical scan or fires weapons, it’ll show, and that’s a bonus for both imposters and crewmen
-cameras have a red blinking light whenever someone’s watching. For the sensors, I think the bottom bar turns red and green whenever someone isn’t on the sensors
-closed doorways can hide bodies, so make sure you use them or open them if your crewmen check around.

That’s about it

These are just tips, but I’m pretty sure you can find some more of your own. These are just ones that I find that worked for me and some other guys.
