Welcome. This We Who Are About To Die – Weapons Guide Guide was created to assist you, and we sincerely hope that you find it so.

Weapons

The most popular method to learn the game is with an axe and a shield or 1H weapons. Guards help to block. However, 1H weapons lack punch. This is why I recommend that you learn to play with 2H weapons. 2H weapons are more effective regarding damage range, damage, and (notably) armor/shield breaking.

Polearms are extremely OP, and there are plenty of “Polearm” weapons, unintuitively. (Polearms are expensive initially, so I recommend the 2H maces to break armor, and the 2H short axe can be great too.)

The giant hammer and the giant Axe are likely the most effective weapons in the game for reach, damage, and animation smoothness. Both are “Polearms,” as you can see.

Playing with polearms is best performed chiefly by putting them up in the air.

The weapon should be aimed at enemy heads to destroy their helmets or outright kill them.

Many polearms also have multi-hit capabilities, so swinging horizontally from right to left is very effective. As you become more proficient, you can swivel left or right, either above or below. If your adversaries have weak leg armor, attacking from below can be highly effective.

Every weapon has unique limitations on the range to ensure full damage swings. This is very important to learn. For maximum damage, you need to be at the proper distance.
I recommend purchasing TWO of the same weapon and remaining with one weapon until you become more proficient in combat.

(There are a few other polearm weapons, notably the Bardiche and the Fererakka (sp+? ); both are extremely impressive. However, the Bardiche has awkward animations, but it has a cheesy poke attack that is straight at the neck and extremely fast, making it a powerful weapon. The Fererakka can also be used one-handed, which allows shielding and reduces your attack arcs.
