The Iron Oath is a newly launched game for Early Access with a lot of potential for it in the future. The game is new territory and no guides exist for it yet, which I have come out to help you with. The Iron Oath is tactical and difficult, but with the right guide, you will survive the blighted land and defeat the Scourge.
 
 
This guide will contain spoilers so if you wish to complete the game first through a blind playthrough then you absolutely should as the game is amazing when experienced that way.
 
 
This guide will update and change based on community feedback and whenever new patches for the game comes out. I am only one man working on this project, I am bound to miss something, or be slow when updating the guide. Please be cautious when following this guide as no dominating strategies or metas have been found, the best strategy for right now is to play intelligently.

Beginner’s Walkthrough Guide

The Beginner’s Guide will hopefully guide you through the gameplay and story of the game, think of this chapter of the Complete Guide as the walkthrough guide or playthrough tips. If you follow these strategies and gameplay tips then you’ll easily finish the game on any difficulty!

Class Tier List

 
 
Luckily for you, the developers did a really nice job playtesting the game because all of the classes are pretty well balanced, however some of them still have more uses over others and with this short tier list I will explain why certain classes out perform the others. Since there isn’t that many classes yet, I will just make a simple list starting from what I think is the best class and going down the list of effectiveness, with the bottom being the least performing class. But by no means does that make the weaker classes useless, In fact I highly recommend always having a blend between these classes as having only having units from a single class can get boring but also make the game extremely difficult. I still always ran Pugilist and Huntress in my party because their abilities were still extremely useful in certain scenarios, even having immediate win conditions.
 
 
Valkyrie
 
The Valkyrie can be labeled as the Wildcard class of the game as most of their abilities are very odd and weird to try to utilize but once you begin to learn how to properly use them, the abilities can get very strong. With a lot of starting Health and Defense this class also plays the role as the Tank and it easily shows. Very good pick early game and very good pick late game. A very nice blend of support abilities with offensive abilities, all are very useful in their own way. Excellent mobility and amazing damage as most attacks can attack multiple targets which is extremely effective in this game.
 
 
Stormcaller
 
The Stormcaller isn’t a class I used often but I still found it essential for my party early game as the damage output from this class is extremely high near the beginning of the game and continues to scale very nicely. The Stormcaller is your Glass Cannon class with a lower health pool than most, however with the right set up can sometimes one shot bosses. The Stormcaller also has abilities than can take down a whole swarm of enemies. They even have a decent reposition ability. However whats holding this class back from first place is a couple mediocre abilities.
 
 
Guardian
 
The Guardian is a required class to have on your team simply because any healing ability in grim tactical games like this one is very over powered. You should always at least have one Guardian or Pugilist on your team at all times because of their healing abilities, only Guardian has an equal amount of abilities that can dish out some major damage. I congratulate the team for making the Guardian a decent offensive option so that it doesn’t become a mindless pocket healer, but a useful ally. I usually kept forgetting to use their healing ability simply because their damage output was extraordinary.
 
 
Pugilist
 
The Pugilist is the perfect counter to the Guardian as both classes are essentially the same but with slightly different abilities. The Pugilist is definitely the funnest class to play simply because of the fun punchy-punchy martial arts. However unlike the other classes this one heavily depends on support abilities from itself or other allied units as the Pugilist cannot perform nearly as well without constantly spamming skills. As well as the below average health pool and lower defense can cripple Pugilist units without backup. Another Glass Cannon like class but this time its not automated.
 
 
Huntress
 
The Huntress is probably the most utility based class out of the rest and has the most range out of any ranged unit. The Volley and Rapid Fire abilities are absolutely broken, dealing more than average damage with a very high critical hit chance, especially partnered with True Sight or Hone. However that’s where the positives of this class ends as most of its stats are below average except critical hit damage and chance. Most of the abilities are way too situational to be useful in most combat encounters. The Rapid Fire ability easily being one of the best abilities in the entire game, but still hard to use unless you have purchased a high rarity weapon. Or currently under the effects of support skills.
 
 
Pyrolancer
 
The Pyrolancer is the exception to my rule earlier saying all of the classes are equally balanced, if this was a comprehensive tier list every class would be on the same tier other than Pyrolancer. Pyrolancer is easily the hottest and most unique class being an Zone or Area Control class, however all of its abilities under perform since its main gimmick and mechanic, Burn, doesn’t actually work, dealing only about 2% of an enemy’s health per turn. Additionally most enemies are actually resistant or immune to Fire damage, which elemental resistances are not an issue at all for every other class. Especially since water is a frequent stage hazard which negates Burn or Fire damage. Additionally it is very easy to damage your own teammates with your abilities because most of them are AoE or leave behind a burning flame on the ground which for some reason does more damage to your allies than opponents. The only Pyrolancer you should have in your party is the one you get at the beginning of the game because the starting Pyrolancer is level 4 and cheats a little since their base stats are seemingly higher than normal.
 
 

Simple Walkthrough Guide

 
 
When playing on an easier difficulty, you should immediately fill up every roster slot you can since building up levels and xp is essentially. On higher difficulties, build your roster slower, only buying one mercenary at a time. Accept and complete every contract work you can in the starting towns, save your gold for equipment and shop items until the late game. When in combat, as long as you play intelligently, you shouldn’t have to worry. Playing as aggressive as possible is the better strategy, the stage is pretty small so you don’t have room to play defensively. Additionally you can’t see where the enemy can move or attack so you can’t plan ahead. Remember to have everyone equally level and to never use a fatigued unit twice in a row. Target the weaker enemies unless you have one-shot options like Stormcaller or Pugilist. When in dungeons remember to scout every 3 or 4 tiles after completing a combat encounter as most likely one is just around the corner and you never want to be ambushed, especially on harder difficulties. Enemies will become more varied and more powerful as time goes on, so if you are struggling on progression then you might as well strap in for the long-haul or just keel over. Bosses are your biggest threat early game as they are set at a certain level regardless of the level your at in the story and only get stronger as time progresses. Once you max out your relationship with a certain town or region, head over to a neighboring one and start completing the quests over there. If you ever need to start buying equipment, buy it from a town with the highest relationship as you’ll get discounts towards items and get a lot more money back from selling items. Wait before selling items as certain world events will make certain items more valuable in different towns.
