Hi, welcome to this post, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart – Best Performance and Graphics guide.

How to maximize visual quality while keeping performance at a high level.

 

 

Note: The game seems to have some weird memory leak in the graphical settings (Maybe exclusively on the Raytracing options but I'm not 100% sure). So after changing the settings make sure to completly close and reopen the game to see the actual framerate your hardware is able to achieved with that configuration.

 

Hardware Specs

This guide was created with the following specifications and has achieved a 60-100 fps framerate in 1440p using DLSS quality.

Windows 11 Pro 64 Bits
Nvidia RTX 3080 10GB MSI Gaming X Trio
Intel Core i7-10700K CPU 4.66 GHz
32GB Ram Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3600MHz
Single Drive of 2 Crucial P2 1TB in RAID

 

Tab for Display

Below are the Display Options and their recommended values:

Window Mode – Fullscreen

You want to set this setting to Fullscreen (Some games do get a performance benefit for using the Exclusive Fullscreen option but this one doesn’t seems to be the case – You can check by yourself just in case – Although Exclusive Fullscreen will make it harder to Alt+Tab from the game).

Display Resolution

Should be the same as your Monitor Resolution (If you wish to lower it to increase performance at the downside of a blurrier picture i would recommend instead to enable some upscale method explained down below).

Aspect Ratio – Auto

It should be set to Auto unless the image proportion isn’t matching your monitor (In which case try to find the one that suits it the best).

Refresh Rate

This one will be Grayed Out if you used the Fullscreen option for the Window Mode (There’s no need to edit it, it matches the value on your Windows configured Monitor Refresh Rate). If you are using Exclusive Fullscreen, set it to the highest possible value.

Vsync – OFF

As long as your Monitor Refresh Rate is higher than 100 Hz i would recommend to set it OFF. If you are Suffering from Screen Tearing then set it ON.

Nvidia Reflex Low Latency – ON

If you hardware allows you to turn on this setting then set it to ON (You can try the ON + Boost option but in some games it usually does more bad than good).

DLSS Frame Generation – ON

If you hardware allows you to turn on this setting then set it to ON (Exclusive to RTX 4000 Series Graphic Cards). This will give a noticeable boost to performance.

Upscale Method – DLSS or AMD FSR 2.1 (To Quality)

I recommend using an Upscale Method for this game. If you want to achieve better performance a good option is to use one of this options. If you are able to use it DLSS would be the better choice, if not then the second best choice would be AMD FSR 2.1. IGTI is an Insomniac similar technolgy and XeSS is the same but made by Intel (Neither of which is better than the two first mentioned). I would set the Upscale Quality to Quality and the Dynamic Resolution to OFF. If you still want to get more performance use the Balanced, Performance or Ultra Performance options (Each one will give more performance at the cost of a blurried picture).

Anti-Aliasing

This one is a personal preference, use the one you like the most or none at all. This option is only available if you are not using an Upscale Method and will get rid of the jagged edges of models. – SMAA is a good and cheap option although it would still may be too sharp. – TAA fixes the jagged edges almost completly but it will make the image blurrier with around the same performance cost as SMAA. – DLAA is an exclusive option for Nvidia Graphics Cards it’s probably the best balance between the previous options but it will consume more frames.

 

Graphics Tab

Below are the Graphics Options and their recommended values:

Texture Quality – High

I would recommend the value of High. This option actually consumes a decent amount of frames (There’s a huge performance jump from Low to Medium, Almost no difference between Medium and High and another big jump to Very High). The visual difference between Low, Medium and High is noticeable; but not in the case of High and Very High.

Texture Filtering – 16x Anisotropic

I would recommend the value of 16x Anisotropic. This option barely consumes performance at all and will make the character model’s surroundings look better in terms of the model and texture quality.

Shadow Quality – Ultra (With RT then Low)

I would recommend the value of Ultra this seems to be the closer to ray-traced graphics but with far better performance (Also this setting doesn’t seems to provide much performance difference – or at least not in my pc). Very High and High look slighly worse but still pretty good (The visual difference between them is not noticeable but it is with them compared to Medium and even more with Low). (If you are using Ray-Traced Shadows set this option to Low and Increase de Ray-Traced Object Range to 10 if able. Since these shadows will only apply outside of the Ray-Traced Shadows area and Low will give a Performance Boost from any other higher option without sacrificing visual fidelity and avoid Very Low since it causes weird black shadow spots in the distance).

Ambient Occlusion – HBAO+

There’s a very small performance difference between the three options. I would recommend the HBAO+ option (Since it looks the closer to ray tracing), SSAO and XeGTAO has a slight better performance but almost not noticeable (Between those two XeGTAO seems to provide better visuals).

Screen Space Reflections – High (With RT then High)

I would recommend the value of High. There is a clear visual difference between OFF and High with not much of a performance impact and absolutly no difference with Very High. (If you are using Ray-Traced Reflections, also set this option to High since it will apply on top of the Ray Traced Reflections to achieve better reflections in some materials).

Ray Traced Reflections – ON

If your hardware allows you to use this setting, i would recommend to turn it ON. This is probably the setting with the most noticeable difference between Ray-Traced and Non Ray-Traced Graphics. Making lots of reflective surfaces that are simply not visible with this setting OFF.

Ray Traced Shadows – High

If your hardware allows you to use this setting i would recommend to set it to High. This is the second most noticeable difference between Ray-Traced and Non Ray-Traced Graphics. Making environments really pop up. The visual difference with Medium is noticeable and the performance cost of Very High is too much for little to no difference.

Ray Traced Ambient Occlusion – OFF

I recommend setting this option OFF and instead use the normal HBAO+ Ambient Occlusion configured before. This option does provide a nice gloss in metallics but the performance impact is huge and not worth it since HBAO+ does a pretty similar job.

Reflection Resolution – Very High

I recommend setting this option to Very High since High present tons of pixelations on the reflections.

Object Range – 10 (Without RT Shadows 6)

I recommend to set this option to 10 if you are using the Ray-Traced Shadow options (If not then I recommend to set this option to the default value of 6).

Level of Detail – Ultra

I recommend setting this option to Ultra. This represents the draw distance for models, you will see some popping at Very High and is really noticeable from High.

Traffic Density – High

I recommend to set this option to High. Barely noticed a performance difference with this option and same with the visual impact.

Hair Quality – Very High

I recommend setting this option to Very High. I barely noticed a performance difference with this option and it does have a visual difference from High and Medium (Which looks almost the same) and there’s even more difference with Low.

Weather Particle Quality – High

I recommend to set this option to High. Barely noticed a performance difference with this option and same with the visual impact.

Phantom Dash Effect

Is an effect applied when you use the Phantom Dash so it’s up to personal preference.

Depth Of Field – Medium

Is an effect up to personal preference (I recommend to set it on Medium since it provides nice visuals in cinematics and in Medium or higher values the blurriness while aiming is minimal unlike lowers with may be too strong).

Bloom – ON

Is an effect up to personal preference (I recommend to set it ON since in provides light effects in some cinematics).

Chromatic Aberration – OFF

Is an effect up to personal preference (I recommend to set it OFF since it makes the game blurrier).

Vignette

Is an effect up to personal preference.

Motion Blur Strenght – 0

Is an effect up to personal preference (I recommend to set it to 0).

Field of View

It changes the camera closeness to the playable character so is up to personal preference.

Film Grain Strenght

Is an effect up to personal preference.

Sharpness – 10

Is a visual option up to personal preference (I recommend to leave it at 10).

Fullscreen Effects – ON

Is an effect up to personal preference (I recommend to set it ON).

Screen Shake

Is an effect up to personal preference (If you suffer from nausea while gaming i recommend you to set this option to OFF).

 

Remember

Remeber to restart the game completly once you have set the settings since the framerate gets bugged (Due to memory leak) when playing around with the graphical settings and you will get lower fps than you should.

Also, remember to try it out for a while (Since the tutorial part of the game is very performance heavy).
