This guide shows you how to “master” the five killruns in the game and get the sword & glove cosmetic.
It is aimed towards newer players. It is easier if you have unlocked every upgrade, but this guide shows that it isn’t necessary.
First of all…
This guide is basically a spoiler.
The most fun aspect of this game is figuring out which path you take, which upgrades and abilities you use.
So I highly recommend trying this by yourself first.
There are multiple ways to approach every level as well, this guide only shows one.
Basics
I guess you are familiar with the base mechanics in this game, for example that you can dash while looking upwards to gain height.
In Killruns you start with a certain amount of time, which is ticking down. If the timer runs out or you get hit, you die and have to restart the level. You gain time if you kill an enemy (+2 seconds) or collecting the orbs (+1 second). There are multiple ways from start to finish.
Killrun #1 to #5 in one video
In the following sections I tried to make it as easy as possible for newer players, I separated the runs, they are a bit slower and there is for example no slidejumping. But all in all they are basically the same, just jump to the run which you are interested in.
In the last section I show all the runs for players who haven’t unlocked all upgrades.
Lets have a look inside at the first level:
Killrun #1
Video
Loadout
Dash: Extra Charge
Dash: Extra Charge II
Dash: Extra Charge III
Dash: Cooldown
Tactical Overlay
Deflect: Reflect
But why?
The dash related upgrades just to get speed while using the timeslowdown. (at 0:24)
The tactical overlay because the guard is sometimes hard to spot. (at 0:24)
Deflect: Reflect because its just the best addon in the game.
But how?
Don’t approach the grapple directly, maybe you have to get used to the timing.
You can just dash instead of jumping (at 0:11) and correct the movement a little with wasd-keys while in the air if necessary.
After the 3rd and last grapple, you need to correct the height a bit by jumping from the wallrun and dashing a bit upwards.
Killrun #2
Video
Loadout
Dash: Extra Charge
Dash: Cooldown
Blink: Range
Deflect: Reflect
But why?
The Dash upgrades to always have a dash ready.
Deflect: Reflect because its just the best upgrade in the game.
Blink: Range to get the guard at 0:24
But how?
After killing the first two guards you grapple up and dash on the ledge, with the second dash you get on the drone. (Aim at the guard.)
Destroying the turret is followed by dashing on the second drone.
At 0:20 just drop down and dash into the guard.
As soon as you see the guard use the Blink ability at 0:22.
Killrun #3
Video
Loadout
Focus: Overclock
Deflect: Reflect
But why?
Focus: Overclock is necessary to get your Blink ability ready.
Deflect: Reflect because its just the best upgrade in the game.
No other upgrades because you need to get your Blink ability fast.
But how?
Doge or deflect the shot of the guard at 0:06, drop down and dash, immediatly dash after the grapple.
Make sure that the mech sees you while falling at 0:23, maybe you have to dash in the air to make it miss or you have to doge its beam.
Get (really) close to the second red barrier and use your Blink ability, otherwise you can’t reach the guard.
After killing the first drone do a 180, you have to be fast or the other drone will kill you.
“Upstairs” the orb will block your vision, which makes it really hard to react to the shots, easiest way is to strave left-right and maybe trying to hit the guard or drone projectile at 0:35.
Killrun #4
Video
Loadout
Dash: Extra Charge
Dash: Cooldown
Blink: Range
Deflect: Reflect
(Same loadout in Killrun #2)
But why?
The Dash upgrades, because this level is Dash heaven.
Deflect: Reflect because its just the best upgrade in the game.
Blink: Range to get the guard at 0:30
But how?
Dash to the first guard, dash to the slope.
If the mech targets you (visual and audio cue) at 0:08, grapple and cancel your upwards movement by using – you guessed it – dash.
Dash from the plattform to the slope and gain distance in the air by dashing.
Orb have quite a large hitbox so, slide close to the red barrier downwards, you will get them.
Make sure the mech targets you and hide behind the pillar. Dash dash dash dash dash. I think I am going insane while writing this. Dash.
Jump past the guard otherwise you will get hit.
Use blink to get to the guard at the end and hurry to kill the other guard as well.
Get stuck at 0:32.
But dash.
Killrun #5
Video
Loadout
Dash: Extra Charge
Dash: Cooldown
Blink: Range
Deflect: Reflect
(Same loadout in Killrun #2, #4)
But why?
The Dash upgrades, because.
Deflect: Reflect because its just the best upgrade in the game.
Blink: Range to get the guard at 0:42
But how?
Get close to the warden at 0:32, it makes it easier to block.
After that be fast and kill the enforcer, if they are still in the shield opening animation you can hit them. Don’t cut the corner too wide. Use dash to close the gap.
At 0:29 press the w and a key in the air to get in the correct position for landing on the drone.
Use Blink ability while still having the momentum from the powerjump, if you do it too early (like me in the video) you will waste some time. For the correct use have a look at the first video with all Killruns.
The rest is just right positioning for the grapple.
Rewards
“But what if I haven’t unlocked all upgrades, how much does the run change?”
It doesn’t change much, the biggest change is in Killrun #3, because you don’t have your Blink ability ready at that time.
You should have the Blink ability unlocked – although I am pretty sure even this isn’t necessary, but why would you go for killruns that early in the game… – and you have to modify some paths a bit.
Here is the video, I recorded my keyboard inputs as well. The loadout is shown before every run.
