Woods

Light Forest Hills

 
A hilly grass covered biome with large trees that aren’t too close together.
 
 
How to Find – Avoid areas of extreme temperature, near other hilly biomes
 
Resources – Mulberries, Pumpkins, Trees, Grass, Dirt, Stone
 
Starting Difficulty – Easy – Lots of Trees, Dirt, and Stone. Enemies aren’t too difficult
 
Signature Monsters – Goblins, Implings, Jack-O’-Lanterns, and rarely Dragon Whelps
 
Animals – Kittens, Beagles, Deer and Butterflies
 
Locations of Note – Goblin Tree House, Goblin Fortress
 
Mineral Bunches – Common
 
Biome Factors – Average Rainfall, Average Temperature, Hilly, Average Lighting

Cherry Forest

 
A large bright cherry tree forest with flat rolling lush green grass atop limestone with jade deposits
 
 
How to Find – Near brighter areas, often near water, prefers cooler climates
 
Resources – Jade, Cotton, Limestone, Pumpkins, Trees, Grass, Dirt
 
Starting Difficulty – Very Easy – Lots of Trees, Dirt, Stone and Cotton. Easier Enemies.
 
Signature Monsters – Goblins, Implings, and rarely Dragon Whelps
 
Animals – Kittens, Beagles, Deer and Butterflies
 
Locations of Note – Jade Courtyard, Abandoned Wall
 
Mineral Bunches – None – Jade spawns instead, and more frequently

Harrowing Woods

 
A dark and scary forest with tall trees crowded together and blocking out the sun. Glowleaf often provides the only light to see by
 
 
How to Find – Away from mountains, cooler areas, often near Dreary Beach
 
Resources – Glowleaf, Pumpkins, Trees, Grass, Dirt, Stone
 
Starting Difficulty – Hard – Has good resources, but harder enemies, 0 line of sight, and the dark creepy nature make for an unsettling start
 
Signature Monsters – Spiders, Jack-O’-Lanterns, and rarely Dragon Whelps. Werewolf Boss
 
Animals – Wolfhound and Deer
 
Locations of Note – Werewolf Village, Harrowing Cabin
 
Mineral Bunches – Rare

Beaches

Breezy Beach

 
A quiet relaxing beach with nearly flat terrain of grass and sand
 
 
How to Find – Near oceans and lakes, often near Cheery Steps
 
Resources – Sea Shells, Wheat, Cotton, Water, Grass, Sand, Dirt, Stone
 
Starting Difficulty – Normal – No Trees is what hurts here, you’ll need to go to another biome to get wood, or find it at a location or in loot chests. Otherwise good resources, easy enemies, and nice flat terrain to build on
 
Signature Monsters – Implings, and rarely Dragon Whelps
 
Animals – Crabs, Kittens, and Butterflies
 
Locations of Note – Beach House, Tower

Dreary Beach

 
A damp and dreary beach with flat sandy and grass terrain that has rocks jutting out of it
 
 
How to Find – Near oceans and lakes, cooler areas, often near Harrowing Woods
 
Resources – Glowleaf, Water, Dreary Grass, Dreary Sand, Stone
 
Starting Difficulty – Very Hard – This biome had no trees, or dirt which makes the early game very difficult. The enemies are more difficult than average, with a rare chance for deadly Golems to spawn. Glowleafs for some visibility a night, sand, and water are the only nice things about starting here
 
Signature Monsters – Spiders, Jack-O’-Lanterns, Mummies, and rarely Dragon Whelps and Golems
 
Animals – Crabs
 
Locations of Note – Dreary Tower, Dreary Grave

Tropical Beach

 
A warm tropical beach with a sandy shore and a tropical jungle further back
 
 
How to Find – Near oceans and lakes, warmer areas, brighter biomes
 
Resources – Pirate Chests, Sand, Water, Trees, Grass, Dirt, Stone
 
Starting Difficulty – Very Easy – All the starter resources you need. In the midgame you might need cotton though. Pirate Chests can only be found in this biome and the Ocean biome and have a nice loot table. The ground is flatter and the enemies are not very difficult
 
Signature Monsters – Goblins, and rarely Dragon Whelps
 
Animals – Crabs and Butterflies
 
Locations of Note – Jungle Dungeon, Jungle Town, Pirate Town

Dry

Red Rock Desert

 
A sea of sand with red rock formations
 
 
How to Find – Near other hot or dry biomes, not usually near oceans or mountains
 
Resources – Sand, Red Rock
 
Starting Difficulty – Very Hard – There are no trees, dirt, or grass in this biome, making the your start very difficult. You could get these from loot chests, but most in the biome are guarded by enemies. The enemies are more difficult than average too. The only upside is this biome has a ton of sand, so in the midgame glass is no problem
 
Signature Monsters – Grumpy Bombs, Mummies, Implings, and rarely Dragon Whelps
 
Animals – None
 
Locations of Note – Buried Aviary, Desert Grotto

Sahel

 
A very hot biome with scattered vegetation and large trees. Cliffs are also common overlooking the lower areas
 
 
How to Find – Near hot or dry biomes, near beach biomes, often next to Dry Rock Bay biomes
 
Resources – Shrubs, Breakable Rocks, Trees, Dirt, Grass, Rock
 
Starting Difficulty – Easy – Baobab trees provide a ton of wood. Grass, Rock and Dirt are plentiful. Breakable rocks provide a way to get ore early, and without mining underground. The downsides to starting here are the higher chance of dragon whelps / golems spawning, and the lack of cotton and sand
 
Signature Monsters – less rarely Dragon Whelps and Golems
 
Animals – Boars, Butterflies
 
Locations of Note – Mud Temple, Sahel Crater

Dry Rock Bay

 
A rocky biome with sparse trees that overlooks a bay. Interesting rock formations line the water produced by erosion
 
 
How to Find – Near oceans, lakes, or beaches, often next to Sahel biomes
 
Resources – Water, Trees, Rock
 
Starting Difficulty – Normal – This biome doesn’t have dirt, making teching to tier 1 difficult. You do have a decent number of trees and a lot of rock though. Most of the special locations in the biome do not have any enemies, so it is easier to get materials from loot chests. The shallow section of the bay has common ore littered on the floor, so you don’t need to go looking for it, unlike most other biomes. The enemies aren’t too difficult either

Aquatic

Ocean

 
Large deep body of water
 
 
How to Find – Often next to beaches
 
Resources – Dirt, Stone
 
Starting Difficulty – Insane – This is an ocean. There is nowhere to build, except your spawning area (if enabled) or on the ocean floor. Swimming is slower than walking or running. There are no trees. To get any resources you have to swim all the way down to the bottom. Digging will cause water to flow and might push or pull you in random directions. There are very few enemies though and they tend to stay above the surface

Locations of Note – Ancient Ruins, Shipwreck

Lake

 
A smaller more shallow body of water
 
 
How to Find – Often next to beaches
 
Resources – Grass, Dirt, Stone
 
Starting Difficulty – Very Hard – Like the ocean, it’s not great to start in a biome with no trees and mostly water. A few things make this biome better though. First locations can spawn on the Lake’s surface, not only on the lakebed. This gives you places to build and makes getting loot easier. Second, for resources on the lakebed you have to swim much less, since lakes aren’t as deep.

Glacier Sea

 
A freezing cold sea filled with glaciers
 
 
How to Find – Colder areas, near oceans, lakes and beaches
 
Resources – Snow, Ice, Stone
 
Starting Difficulty – Insane – This biome is a frozen sea. There are no trees. Stone (and dirt) are deep underground, below the water, and snow, and ice. This biome does have locations that spawn on the surface or glaciers making it easier to get loot chests than in the Ocean biome

Locations of Note – Military Base, Research Station

Volcanic

 
A biome filled with volcanic rock and lava
 
 
How to Find – Near hotter biomes, and near mountains
 
Resources – Basalt, Lava
 
Starting Difficulty – Insane – There is lava all over the place. This makes dying while walking around or mining much more likely. There are no trees, dirt or grass so doing basic research and crafting will be an issue

A grassy wet swamp filled with tall trees
 
 
How to Find – Near oceans and lakes, near warmer biomes

Starting Difficulty – Easy – The swamp is filled with trees and has access to stone, dirt and grass. A layer of shallow water fills the entire biome, but its only one to a few cubes deep.

How to Find – Often found near Swamps or Tropical Beaches
 
Resources – Selenite, Eroded Rock, Water
 
Starting Difficulty – Very Hard – There are no trees or dirt and golems roam the biome making it very dangerous

Starting Difficulty – Very Hard – This biome has no trees or dirt, making getting to tier 1 difficult.

Starting Difficulty – Very Easy – Wide open area to build and all the starting resources. Easy monsters except for Golems, but they only spawn rarely at night

Cheery Steps

 
Biome filled with bright happy small hills
 
 
How to Find – Found in brighter areas, generally away extreme temperatures or rainfall
 
Resources – Marble, Mulberry, Cotton, Trees, Dirt, Grass, Stone
 
Starting Difficulty – Very Easy – Has all the starting resources you need. Enemies aren’t too bad. Ground isn’t exactly flat, but the hills can be easily flattened
 
Signature Monsters – Implings, Mummies, Jack-O’-Lanterns and rarely Dragon Whelps
 
Animals – Butterfly, Kitten
 
Locations of Note – Ziggurat, Marble Town
 
Mineral Bunches – Common
 
Biome Factors – Below Average Rainfall, Average Temperature, Average Elevation, Bright

Maquis

 
Large rolling grass covered hills with various shrubs dotting the landscape. This biome also contains large marble deposits
 
 
How to Find – Found in hilly dry areas
 
Resources – Marble, Wheat, Cotton, Shrubs, Dirt, Grass, Stone
 
Starting Difficulty – Easy – Also has all the starting resources you need. But wood is only found in shrubs and in low amount and scattered. Grumpy Bombs can explode and Golems rarely spawn making this biome not the easiest
 
Signature Monsters – Grumpy Bombs and rarely Dragon Whelps and Golems
 
Animals – Ibex, Beagle, Butterfly
 
Locations of Note – Marble Temple, Marble Town
