Storage in Crate Entertainment’s Farthest Frontier: A Beginner’s Guide.
Introduction
This guide is intended to Show new players the basics and storage system You will find tips and tricks to optimize storage and eliminate the headaches of spoilage and long travel times in Farthest Frontier.
This reading is primarily targeted at New players or players having trouble Understanding and optimizing storage in their area(s).
As with any Early Access-type game, All information is subject to alter I will be reading the patch notes and you can rest assured that this guide is up-to-date to help you all.
Let’s get started.
Storing Resources
You won’t have all the resources you need because most of them are tied to production from buildings at the higher tiers. However, you will have plenty of raw materials to stockpile before production starts.
Raw Materials
Resources that are collected from the world, and not refined in any manner, can be used later in many ways to make other materials.
For example: Wood, Stone, Iron, Herbs, etc.
Food
The most important stage of the game is the one that includes both refined and raw versions. Proper storage is crucial because most food items can spoil.
For example: Meat, Fish, Berries, Bread, etc.
Produced Materials
These are the raw materials that are used to produce or refine other items.
For example: Planks, Firewood, Bricks, Flour, etc.
Usable Items
This is the last category of any material. These items are used by workers to produce, gather, and survive.
For example: Clothing, Tools, Beer, Soap, etc.
Storage buildings
You have most of the storage options available at the start, but you will need to order them.
Storage cart
It is the first storage building that you will find in the game. It has a low-to-mode storage capacity, but can store anything. You can also move it by clicking on the wheel icon.
It’s great for storage of early game materials, but it’s especially useful for building materials storage. You can move the cart closer towards a construction site or upgrade site so that your workers don’t have to travel as far to get their materials.
Use for: Early game storage / Raw Materials / Usable Items
Don’t use for: Food / Raw Materials (Later Game)
Stockyard
The Stockyard is almost identical to the Storage Cart, but it has slightly more storage space and is immobile.
It can be used to store building materials and early game items. Just mind the placement of the building if you plan to use it for this, apparently there is a mechanic for resource weight, workers will move slower with certain raw materials as they weigh more.
Use for: Raw / Produced Materials
Don’t use for: Food
Root Cellar
The Root Cellar is small storage facility that can store food items and some herbs.
It is highly efficient in storing food and should be your only choice.
Use for: Everything Perishable (Mainly Food / Herbs)
Don’t use for: n/a
Storehouse
The largest storage building in the bunch is the Storehouse
It can be used to store building materials and early game items. Just mind the placement of the building if you plan to use it for this, apparently there is a mechanic for resource weight, workers will move slower with certain raw materials as they weigh more.
Use for: Raw Materials / Produced Materials / Usable Items
Don’t use for: Food Storage (Unless you don’t have a Root Cellar yet)
Storage Tips & Optimisation
There are a few ways to optimize your storage to make it more efficient. I will continue to update and modify this section as new updates are released / more tips are discovered.
Assigning Storage
To assign storage to a building, simply click the checkbox at the top left corner for each resource. This will turn storage on or off at the building.
This topic was already covered in the buildings section. However, I will now list storage recommendations for each building. Simply uncheck everything except what is listed below for each building.
Storage Cart: Use Early Game | Raw Materials and Usable Items
Stockyard: Raw Material and Produced Materials
Root Cellar: Everything it can store (Mainly Food and Herbs)
Storehouse: Raw Materials, Produced Materials and Usable Items
Storage Locations
It is important to consider the location of your Storage Locations relative to your production and distribution. This is especially important for food.
It’s easy, just place your storage in the middle of your production line and distribution lines as shown in this picture. To keep your production numbers up, place it closer to production. Distribution should follow.
Closing (for the moment)
This was a very basic guide, I believe.
It is directed at the people mentioned before. You are new to the game, or the genre in general As time passes, the guide will become longer. It will be updated regularly. As the game develops, I discover more things to share!
