Grayscale

After loading the image, the first thing we need to do is convert it to grayscale.

In the toolbar, select Colors -> Desaturate -> Desaturate…

Select “Luma” and confirm by pressing the OK button.

Adjusting Colors

Next we need to adjust the colors. The game treats everything below about 70% brightness as one color so we must shift our color values so that we don’t be able to see dark details.

Select the Toolbar from the toolbar. Colors -> Curves…

Click LPM to add a point on the curve and then enter the values:

• Input: 30
• Output: 170
• Type of Corner

Confirm by clicking OK.

(All these values were tested by trial and error. I selected these values because they are pretty universal. You can increase the input for brighter images. This should provide more detail. I would encourage you to play around.)

Final Finishing

As a final step, I’d like to boost the brightness and contrast just a bit.

In the toolbar, select Colors -> Brightness-Contrast…

Set both Brightness and Contrast to 20 and then confirm using the OK button.

End Results

Let’s export it as a PNG file and save it to the Save folder.
