This is a guide on how to gather any aberration.

Introduction

The catch of most aberrations follows the same approach, but I will develop an in-depth strategy for the specific aberrations. This is a WIP, and I will try to update it as I gather more information. Any ideas for aberrations that aren’t listed or additional details on the listed aberrations would be greatly appreciated in the comments.

This guide assumes you already can fish in all locations(oceanic or hadal, etc.) You should also have access to all spells. There will be a lot of spoilers of gameplay.

Basic Strategy

For most aberrations, finding them is as simple as finding their spawning location and then waiting for them to appear. However, there are ways to speed up this process. Sometimes, a shimmer effect may appear over the school fish. This indicates that a specific anomaly will spawn within the school. I’ve noticed this happening more often at night, but I cannot confirm that it is happening. The spell Atrophy almost always grants aberrations and is much quicker than regular fishing.

1. Review the Encyclopedia for the location and depth of water/type of base fish.
2. See if shimmer effect occurs or apply the Atrophy spell
3. Collect aberration

Mixed Bait Strategy

If you are having trouble finding a certain fish, try the “mixed bait” item(this can be purchased after you have completed the twisted strand quest line). This will randomly fish up any fish that is local to the area. This is extremely useful for all the open ocean anomalies, where finding a specific spawn location can be tedious. This is a great option for the atrophy spell.

1. Locate the location of aberrations and apply mixed bait

The Gale Cliffs merchant Dock is ideal for farming open ocean aberrations. (see the image below)

Strategies for overcoming aberrations

Sharks (and sailfish)

• Two sharks can be observed close to the Greater Marrow Dock (which is available depends on the time of day).
• Near the Stellar Basin merchant are Hammerheads
• Frilled Sharks are located on the west side of the ruin of Devil’s Spine.
• Sailfish are found north of the Greater Marrow dock (west of the small northern islands)

Anchovy King

• Anchovy/Anchovy Kings can only be discovered by trawling the open ocean.
• To do this you will need the Heavy Duty Trawl Net(last net research unlock)
• Once the Heavy Duty Trawl net is equipped, you can sail the ocean until you find the Anchovy King. It could take a while.

Decrepit/Collapsed Viperfish

• This can be found by using the mixed bait strategy.
• You can find the exact location here (use the atrophy spell).
• Both Aberrations are suggested.

Charred Sunfish

• This is possible using the mixed bait strategy.
• You can find the exact location here (use atrophy spell).

Fish without Aberration

All fish have an aberration version. All crabs(any item caught in a pot) don’t have an aberration nor exotic fish.
