Installation guidelines

To play Elite, you need “Dawn of War II: Retribution”. It is not “Dawn of War II”, and it is not “Dawn of War II’s last standalone”.

DoW2R:R must be launched once before Elite can be installed.

Steam, DoW2R Elite, and Steam should all be on one hard drive.

If you choose the standard install path on all installers then this should be the default.

If you’ve installed Steam and DoW2R elsewhere, be sure to direct the Elite installer in the correct direction.

No range unit tooltips

Elite Mod only supports English.

Be sure that there are no other UCFs in conflict. Some mods, such as other mods, might have their UCFs.

If you are running more than one mod, you will have to save them somewhere else. You can then use the UCF file when you need it.

Soundbug (SB)

Use the following solution. Since I combined these two fixes, I haven’t gotten a SB.

This fix is for SMOL fixes by nah. It updates fmodex.dll so that it can be used to update audio related tasks.

You need this to be reinstalled every time that you “verify the Integrity of Steam Cache” for DOW2R

Lock your FPS down to 58.

Startup issue thanks to BbBoS

Sometimes the DirectX necessary to run DoWIIR is not installed during a fresh install.

Go to C:\Program Files (x86 – \Steam\steamapps\common\Dawn of War II – Retribution\Install and click on “DXSETUP”.

Or download it at Microsoft

Windows 8.1 startup issue (Thanks Tsototar).

Install DirectX 9c or an earlier version.

Downloaded from Microsoft, run “DirectX Web Installer”.

DoW2R doesn’t run on 16-cores (Thanks for Batpimp bringing this to our attention).

Deactivate eight of your sixteen cores to make the game run.

Campaign Bugs

Use the retail game. Use the retail product.

Only play Noot’s Ordo Malleus Survival Campaign Mod using Elite Mod. It replaces IG Campaign.

Issues fixed by yellowmonkeySoulEater:

Can’t use a mouse or keyboard on the menu screen.

This happens if the default keyboard language of your computer is not English.

How to Change the Keyboard Language in Windows 10

Start-up Menu says “OUTSIDE VIDEO MEMORY” and has a light pink background.

This bug may be due to antialiasing. In the game’s settings, turn off AA.

Check that you have not enabled it in your Nvidia Control Panel / ATI Catalyst Control Center.

Sync Error

Avoid random if you are putting it for AI or players.

While we aren’t sure what causes this problem, it seems like selecting random tends increase the issue.

Army Level Reset

This error seems caused by a disconnect between your PC and Steam.

Steam must be closed after you’ve finished the game. Restarting your computer is the best way to restart.

Log in to Steam manually. Wait a moment. Launch the games.

If it doesn’t work try reinstalling your game.

Note: You may see a Steam message regarding the desync when attempting to launch the program.

If this occurs, cancel that message and restart the game. This should prevent Steam from causing a disconnect between your game and Steam.

On startup, the game has a black background and no sound (Radeon customers)

This is caused by an old Radeon bug.

Select “-window”, in the launch options, under properties.

Remove the “window”, then run the windowed game again.
