Section two, Fighting energy (BR 7.0/10.0 –
Energy is the speed and altitude at which you travel. I’ll create brief lists to help you identify
high and low energy states.
High vs. low energy state (and yes the art is a little shabby since i’m not really an artist.)
here you can see the plane at high altitude and one at a low altitude. Let’s say they’re around 2.5 km (8202 feet) apart.
The lower plane would have to fly extremely fast to catch the plane flying higher. The one that is higher in flight could counter this by climbing higher and making the plane lower bleed the speed that they currently have and convert it into altitude. This makes them slower and an easier to target
After the plane with the lower speed has stopped, the plane with a higher speed can now attack the enemy while they are still a sitting duck.
Energy is the lifeblood of battles at the tiers that don’t have access to modern missiles
If you are chased, no problem.
If you are being chased by an aircraft that has more energy or speed than you, you could utilize this speed to your advantage.
when your adversary has overshot, you can take advantage and try to get a few shots off however, the window of opportunity is limited because of the difference in energy
If you are in this position and you are unable or unwilling to kill the enemy, I recommend that you restore your energy as as quickly as possible. If you’re the one who ran after the enemy but missed your shots due to overshooting the target, fly a little further away, and then reverse your course and dive back as shown in this video.
This is all true up until BR 10.0. From 10.3 onwards, your planes are equipped with such thrust that energy fighting hardly ever happens. There are a lot of missiles, and slowing down could mean death.
Same energy state?
In certain situations you may encounter someone on an equal footing with you in these instances. It all depends on who is more comfortable with the limitations of their aircraft. However, this could be avoided with a simple technique head-ons.
In case you both miss in a head-on, you can always simply fly away from one another and leave each other be or your adversary could turn around to try and get you back in the fight, but don’t do this you will only lose energy and leave you vulnerable to another one of his team members to swoop in on you and take you out, so if your enemy decides to turn around following an encounter, just ignore them and focus on another target
