Some good seeds, a very short/basic walkthrough, tips, FAQs and basic infos about Modding.

(In the end i try to make so compact as possible)

WIP

This guide is very early work in Progress

Means i still try with different layouts and other stuff

Dont wonder if there is just a link out of context in the guide, when i find something i want to add later to the guide i simply drop the info or link without any context.

Seeds

Lets start with good seeds

(Some i found myself, some i took from the Forum)

My evaluation

—————————————

Generally

+ During some people like very large (long) islands, for me its a knock-out criterion. If a island is so huge that it blocks travel with a ship and make a 10 minute tour a one hour tour theres no point in such a seed.

+ Trader is inside the 25% circle (nearly all maps allow this)

Startgame

+ (optional) Spawn island is good for a Base

+ Enough bee hives arround start

+ Eikthyr can be reached without passing higher level biomes

+ Elder can be reached without passing higher level biomes

+ Trader is easy to reach

+ There are (iron) Crypts easy to reach

Midgame

+ There is a really nice base spot (like a small island)

+ Bonemass can be reached without passing higher level biomes

+ Moder can be reached without passing higher level biomes

+ At least 10 (iron) crypts near the Base spot

+ At least 3 larger mountains near the Base spot

Irrelevant in my opinion

+ The traders location itself, he sells noting that cant be teleportet

Seed: Crazy

https://valheim-map.world/?seed=Crazy&offset=-1047%2C763&zoom=0.013&view=1&ver=0.147.3 – [valheim-map.world]

(Map centered on a nice Meadows island for a Small-Medium base)

(All other good points are given)

– No iron crypts on the start island, but east and west on the next islands

– Bonemass, Moder, Yagluth are a bit furter away and the player must be carefull to sail not into plains

Its a very good seed with a nice decent sized Island for a Meadows base

Seed: HHcLC5acQt

https://valheim-map.world/?seed=HHcLC5acQt&offset=-4254%2C2059&zoom=0.065&view=1&ver=0.202.14 – [valheim-map.world]

+ There is a really nice Dark Forest island with a bit plains NW of the startbase.

+ It is really a easy going seed with a gigantic Start island

+ The Bosses are so near together its nearly pervert

– The nearer Moder is sourrounded by plains

– Direct next to the start is a small Dark forest patch, it can be that you need to run for your life the moment you spawn

Some special seeds (never checked for the above demands)

Seeds with a small Startisland

Seeds with a huge Startisland

OOOOOOOOOO (ugly long island)

Literature (ugly long island)

QWERTY

323

Seeds i still need to judge (But the first view was not bad)

uwCtg5fYT4

r4tLLIYveV (From Wariat117 looks promising, nice Mountain island near spawn)

Basic Tips and tricks

Here the few basics you should know when you start

STAY AWAY FROM Higher BIOMES

Like out of sight

You cant skip the progress of a Biome, (well partially if you know what you do)

The order is

* Meadows aka Stone Age

* Dark Forest aka Copper age

* (not really a stage, but dont try the ocean with a raft)

* Swamps aka Iron age

* Mountains aka Silver Age

* Plains aka Dark Metal Age

* ( next patch: Mistlands)

Different to real life where you produce/buy nails when you need them, in Valheim you need the nails to know the Blueprints they are used for. So you need them to know that you need them. Means you should produce, collect, buy everything at least once to unlock the Recipes/Blueprints

1 The Meadows

——————————————————————————————–

Keep in mind that the Torch make Boars and Greylings (not greydwarfes) flee

——————————————————————————————–

Thats the food you can get in the meadows.

The fish is tricky since you cant have the fishing rod in this gamestage, but you can have luck and pickup some fish from the beach during a storm

Valheim - Game Mechanics and Gameplay Tips for Beginners - 1 The Meadows - 10578F9

Startgame in the Meadows

Run around and get the material to craft your first Equipment

This stage is just the few first minutes.

You can use your torch to defend yourself. Dont underestimate the Burning effect on enemys in the early game. The torch and later the Flame arrows are really helpfull since you can keep distance most of the fight.

Valheim - Game Mechanics and Gameplay Tips for Beginners - 1 The Meadows - 163D39A

Now with this basic equipment you can follow the waterline of a River/Ocean and collect the stuff for your follow up equipment. When you come along old shacks it make sense to repair a few of them and add a campfire, workbench and a bed. (Dont forget to place a house marker on these Shacks) So you can refresh your “Well rested” buff which give you more Stamina refresh

Valheim - Game Mechanics and Gameplay Tips for Beginners - 1 The Meadows - 54D0716

——————————————————————————————–

If you put better arrows in one of the 8 Equipment Slots its easy to switch to them if necessary

——————————————————————————————–

During that collect (and eat) Food

And collect Bee Queens (you want 5+ to have enough Honey)

Until here you play Nomad style

Now its time for a first base

2 The Dark Forest

3 The Swamp

4 The Mountains

5 The Plains

Console Commands

To use console commands you need as first to add -console in the Startoptions

Valheim - Game Mechanics and Gameplay Tips for Beginners - Console Commands - 7B8E8E5

——————————————————————————

if the consolde dont open, Valheim+ has a setting to prevent the console from beeing opened

——————————————————————————

Then ingame

Press F5

type: devcommands

and then enter a command:

freefly (free flying camera, on/off)

debugmode (enables the debugmode that activate 3 Keybindings)

Z = Fly

B = Craft and Build without ressources

K = Kill all

god

ghost

exploremap

resetmap

randomevent

tame

spawn (spawns items mobs animals) First number = amount, Second number = Level

spawn Boar 1 2 (Spawns one one star boar (level 1 is no star))

spawn Wolf 1 3

spawn Lox 1 1

Mods

One of Valheims strongest sides is modding.

================================================================

Before you mod your vanilla game just make a copy of the Vanilla game installation.

And when you add complex mods like SK Toolbox make a copy of the modded game installation

And then you can make different modded game versions, for example i have one game installation i start with the exe only if i need to transfer stuff with a setting of 8×20 Playerslots and 100k weightlimit

================================================================

Backup your savegames regulary. With mods you allways have a much higher risk to loose the current savegame

================================================================

This is a topic i could write a own guide above. To keep it short i just suggest a good entry point

get this mod

https://www.nexusmods.com/valheim/mods/4 – [nexusmods.com]

It comes with the plugin that allow to use mods (there are others than BepInEx but thats the one i use and its very common)

And this mod is just a very long list of options that can be enabled, some stuff tis mod do is better solved in other mods, but in general this one mod can spare you to install 10-30 other mods

1: Download ValheimPlus Windows Client

2: Install Valheim+ by copy all the stuff from the rar file into the games main folder, so that BepInEx is one under the mainfolder

3: Edit the config file (valheim comes with one)

4: Start the game

If you want to install a additional mod (that has a Config file)

1: Download mod

2: Copy DLL file in the BepInEx/plugins Folder, copy the config file into the BepInEx/config folder

3: Edit the config file

4: Start the game

If you want to install a additional mod (that has no Config file)

1: Download mod

2: Copy DLL file in the BepInEx/plugins Folder

3: Start the game (now the mod writes the Config file if the mod offers one)

4: Stop the game

5: Edit the config file

6: Start the game

#############################################

WARNING

If you use mods that

* raise slots of containers

* raise stack amounts

* raise min/Max soil high

* add new build items

* theres more but thats the most common

you risk your savegame breaks when you load the game after a ninjapatch that breaks this mod

#############################################

Still adding more mods (only a few)

How to find the ingame trader

This works on over 90% of the maps (i would even say 98%+)

Step one

Make 4 Marker N,S,E,W arround 20-25% of the distance to the Worldmap

Valheim - Game Mechanics and Gameplay Tips for Beginners - How to find the ingame trader - 3C94AA5

Add 4 more in that range (to have a circle)

Valheim - Game Mechanics and Gameplay Tips for Beginners - How to find the ingame trader - 1891EFC

Now travel along these marker and

* Scout every Island with Dark forest

or

* Place a Teleporter on each of these islands and check them later

The chance is high that alone by Sailing along the coast you allready find the trader (marker) it shows up arround the distance of the Minimap (if not scrolled in or out)

Here the result of my test (where i used the fly command since it was a test)

How to build

The stuctural integrity is simple

Wood can be stacked 5 Elements from Ground contact.

Core wood offer longer logs that allow to build a bit higher

Iron logs can be stacked much higher and can hold stone blocks

Valheim - Game Mechanics and Gameplay Tips for Beginners - How to build - CA2C3D8

There are 4-5 kinds of Buildings/Compinds you Probably want to build

The Gate Nexus

Near the start Circle is the best place to have a place that connects all your Teleporter

Near the Circle because you can change the Boss Buff if needed

The random Shack

Here you can sleep, repair (workbench only), and get a short “Well rested” Buff

The Outposts

These Outposts are small bases on the niveau of a Startgame Base (early Copper)

[WIP] Mod: A suggestion/example for a mod setup for Single player

I add a download of the config file(s) after testplaying

Balance

The Balance is fine except for the stamina combined with Running speed in startgame and during Construction

The aim of this setup is to stay as near as possible to the vanilla difficulty in fights.

But remove the tedious stuff that anyway is only obnoxious and adds nothing to the challenge.

So lets reduce the XP grind, aim is a full skilled character after arround 300 Hours of normal playing (but with playing all weapontypes) what means you loose arround 50-100 Hours of XP when you die full skilled (and not several thousands)

(Btw thats in my opinion a fair balance if you play permadeath)

V+ raise Running XP by 2000% (thats maybe too much, this skill raises automatically)

V+ raise Jumping XP by 10 000% (all time Bunnyhopping to raise a skill is a joke)

V+ raise Swimming XP by 10 000%

V+ raise Sneaking XP by 5000% ()

V+ raise Bow XP by 5000% (Since its the key Skill for a archer)

V+ raise Shield XP by 10 000% (else its hard to level, specially as Archer)

V+ raise unarmed XP by 5000% (you will not use this skill in the later game)

V+ raise Wood Cutting XP by 10000% (anti tedious skill)

V+ raise Mining XP by 10000% (anti tedious skill)

V+ raise all others to 1000%

Lets make the Inventory system more enjoyable

V+ baseMaximumWeight = 400

V+ baseMegingjordBuff = 250

V+ Player inventory slots +50%

V+ Autopickup 8m

V+ To balance the benfits out lets buff the Mobs by simulating a additional person nearby, means Mobs get

+4% Damage

+40% Health

Means setFixedPlayerCountTo = 1

Transport

I decided to make the teleporters not unrestricted, but make at least the transport vehicles more usable (specially for the nomads among us, sadly there is no way to raise the vehicle HP)

V+ wagonExtraMassFromItems = -90

V+ Card 8×30 storage

V+ Karve 8×30 storage

V+ Longboat 8×30 storage

Wind at your back: Makes sailing fun

https://www.nexusmods.com/valheim/mods/282 – [nexusmods.com]

Mining and Woodchopping

I didnt buffed the axe since its a weapon too, Sure the pickaxe can be usedd as weapon, but that makes only sense against one special enemy, and there the stamina is irrelevant

V+ Pickaxe stamina usage -90%

Building

V+ Durability Hammer 200%

V+ Hammer stamina usage -90%

V+ Durability Hoe 200%

V+ Hoe stamina usage -90%

V+ Durability Pickaxe 200%

[V+ Pickaxe stamina usage -90%]

Gardening

V+ Durability Cultivator 200%

V+ Cultivator stamina usage -90%

V+ Furnace (Take Ressources and put ressources from/into crate in 6m range)

V+ Kiln (Take Ressources and put ressources from/into crate in 6m range)

V+ Kiln only normal wood (to make sure no accidents happen)

V+ Windmill (Take Ressources and put ressources from/into crate in 6m range)

V+ Spinning Wheel (Take Ressources and put ressources from/into crate in 6m range)

QOL

V+ First person view enabled

V+ 85 FoV First person view

V+ cameraMaximumZoomDistance = 12

V+ cameraBoatMaximumZoomDistance = 24

V+ cameraFOV = 85

V+ exploreRadius = 350 (Thats arroud minimap Size if not scrolled in or out, much much better for sailing)

V+ Display Cards and Boats

V+ Using a workbench autorepairs

V+ Autoequip after Swimming
