INTRODUCTION

heil og sæl fellow Vikings.

I’m small content creator currently working on
Advanced TIPS and TRICKS” series on my youtube channel.
My main goal is to spread as much viable and useful information to Valheim community as it’s humanly possible.
I want to keep these guides in form of set of tips & tricks from my video episodes. In case of this particular guide, I want to present you content from episodes 1-3.
I want YOU to become truly Valhalla worthy viking, so without further ado, let’s start :]

TIPS AND TRICKS (1-5)

1. SPEAR IS OP

If you are just at the beginning of your journey and thinking what weapons you shall make first, think no more, because Flint spear is a no brainer choice.
Cheap in production, veryfast and you can use special attack for long range combat:
Once you throw the spear, you will have to pick it up, so if you stay close enough to your enemy, you’ll get your weapon back automatically. On top of that, Flint spear one-shots regular deer, which you have to kill to get two deer trophies, as it’s your, at the time being – main quest objective.

2. LEARN THE MOVES

Roll mechanic might be very tempting to use due to its high amount of invincibility frames, altho it’s a trap and here’s why. You see, your stamina does not regenerate fast enough to roll efficiently over and over.
Learn the moveset of particular enemies and try to dodge with side steps or short sprints whenever it’s possible. By doing so you’re going to save more stamina for attacks, which might be crucial in many situations.
Also, there are two strong benefits of blocking stance. You’re gaining stamina as fast as you would normally do, while avoiding direct hits AND making your character face the direction of the crosshair.

3. MOVEMENT SPEED MECHANICS

Ad hoc to the previous point, most equipment in the game decreases your movement speed. You can use this mechanic to your advantage by holstering the weapon whenever you need to gain some distance in fights. It is Especially efficient if you’re low on stamina against a group of relatively slow enemies.

4. MAKE THINGS COMPACT

Be creative with your space management. There’s no point to use one cooking station per campfire if you can use three of them at the same time.

5. EXPLORE WITH BRAIN

Once you decide it’s time for adventure, always remember to bring your axe and hammer with you. You can craft a workbench practically wherever you want and you should use it to your advantage.
Whether it’s the top of the tower you need to build a stairs to get to, or if you end up in the middle of the wilderness with cold status on, just find some cover, make a workbench, fix your stuff, place some fire, bed and call it a day.
Remember you don’t have to pick up every rock on your way, you won’t utilize all these resources anyway, so keep your inventory clean and focus on picking up only high rarity stuff instead.

6. TIME SKIP

You can “skip time” by going to sleep and then click on the bed again once you wake up. Quite useful if you are waiting for food or potions to finish the fermentation process.

7. PORTABLE PORTAL

If you are about to go on the far adventure, making base every few hundred meters might be counter-productive. Make a portal on your main base, call it somehow, in my case it is tp#backup. Take materials needed for another portal and 10 woods for the workbench.
Once you’re gonna need to get back to your base, just craft a workbench and portal, give it the same name as your portal in base, teleport back, do what you have to do and then back again through the portal. Destroy what you just created and that’s it. Your portable portal is yet again ready to be deployed once you need it.

8. ONE PORTAL TO MANY DESTINATIONS

So, technically one portal can lead only to the other by binding them with the same tag, which technically gives you a limit of 1 portal leading to one destination. Unless…
Tags are editable and once you set a portal on your main base, you can use it to travel to the other portals by changing its tag. As you can see here, this is my main base. I named my other portals as tp#1, 2 and 3. If I need to get to my very first base, I simply change tag to tp#, wait for the portal to fade off Then change the tag to desired one.
Assuming at some point you’re about to have, let’s say 30 different portal destinations, you’re going to save 290 greydwarf stones, 580 fine woods and 58 surtling cores, not even talking about all the space that would be needed for all these portals.
Worth to mention this trick might be very hard to use in multiplayer sessions.

9. ARROW SWAP STRAT

You can swap between arrows at any time. Use this knowledge to apply debuffs like burning or freeze in between regular shots.

10. ANIMATION CANCELS WITH HAMMER

You can do it even faster with a hammer by canceling holster animation completely. Just set your hammer on the accessible button and click it twice. This technique is quite OP considering the fact you can holster your weapon instantly in the sprint, which normally is not possible.

11. GET RID OF DEBUFF

You can get rid of any debuff by logging out. Let’s say you got poisoned and you know you’re gonna die. You can technically just log out and once you’ll log back in, debuff will be gone.
Stinky cheese perhaps, but you saved your precious skill points at the very least.

12. HIT THAT TREE

The more you hit – the more you level up your weapon skills. If you’re going to hit a tree with a weapon that isn’t an axe, you’re going to deal 0 damage. Game sees it as an actual hit and because of that you can gain skill points by mindlessly attacking a tree. Quite fast and effective way to increase your combat power.

13. POCKET SHIP

Voyages are cool, but sometimes you end up in a situation when it would be nice if you could simply pick up your boat into your pocket and move across the land to another shore, then deploy the boat again. Good thing you can do exactly that. Although it’s impossible to deconstruct your boat with a hammer, you can still smash it with your axe. The best way to do it is to stand on the boat and hit the mast. Once destroyed be sure you picked up all materials.

14. ORE COLLECTING LIKE A PRO

Ores cannot be teleported, which leads to some troubles with collecting and transporting them to your base. You either make side bases and crafting stations across different biomes or take a risk of transporting goods through the ocean. You can workaround all of that by making a special world just for Ore farming purposes. Bring your voyager setup and create new seed. Jump on the boat and swim to whatever biome you need. It’s the most optimal way for ore farming by far, since you don’t even have to abandon the collecting place once you reach capacity limits. Just extract needed ore and relog to your main world, then relog back to farming one.

15. WET DEBUFF CLEANSE

Wet debuff lowers your health and stamina regeneration. Get rid of it by simply stepping on firecamp

16. RUG STACKING

You can stack rugs under each other. Do it to gain additional comfort points.

17. RESTED OP

Speaking of comfort points, you need them to gain additional minutes of Rested buff and believe me, you want to have it active all the time. It is by far the most powerful buff in the game at the moment.
Stand in your well-decorated base for 15 seconds to gain the effect, then once you run out of it, use my portable portal trick from the previous episode to regain the best effect in the game.

18. JUMP ATTACKS

And last but not least, you can use both – melee and bow attacks in the air. Quite useful in some niche situations.

BOTTOM LINE

I really hope you found something that you might find useful during your adventures in Valheim.
