Welcome to this post we hope you find our Survival: Fountain of Youth – Crafting Information Guide to be useful.

This part guide will focus on the user interface rather than what each machine can perform. More information about each machine can be found in the chapter following (assuming I remember to include it).

How do I use machines?

Machines (Workbenches)

Clicking on an item will display an interface that shows you what the item can do. Tabs are located on the top of the screen and they allow you to cycle between the various functions of your machine. Each machine may have unique tabs. Some machines require fuel and to be lit to function.

Each Machine has a different combination of features including Fire, Crafting and Workbench, Slots as well as Container, Water Tank and Upgrade.

Fire

Most machines need fuel and a fire to work. Some machines, such as the smoke indicator, are lit only to keep the light on them. On the left side of each machine, you will find the different fuel types required. You can also look at the individual fuel times on the item description.

  • Wood fuel is needed
  • The charcoal kiln produces coal, or it can be mined from coal deposits.
  • Lamp oil is made by using animal fat in a chemistry machine

The firestarter is the only way to start a fire. Upgrading the machine will result in more recipes and increased fuel efficiency. Additionally, having a fire nearby will help mitigate environmental effects like wetness or wind.

The Did you know? torches are 100% effective at starting fires. You can use the smoke signal to light it at any time. Always use a torch to start a fire at home

Tinder

To save time, it is important to have a tinder. If you fail, you could waste more time. The best tinder is cattail plants. Next come tree mushrooms and yellow leaves.

Crafting

This is simple and will show you the materials, the time, and the necessary tools to make the product. The crafting button will take you directly to the workbench. You can find the crafting section of a workbench outside the crafting section in your interface. The only recipe you can use on that machine is listed.

Workbench

Confirming a recipe does not craft it immediately, but opens a project tab. You can specify how much time you want it to take. This way, you can leave the crafting process unfinished and continue later.

Slots

Slots are for machines that require idle-time to craft their recipe. You can do other things while you wait. It is advantageous to have several of these because you can run them simultaneously. Some of these are made in a day, but others can be finished in just an hour.

  • It can be tricky to use slots. Pressing space will only activate the first one. If you have multiple slots, then you will need to manually click it or use the craft tab. Pressing space while a process is running will refund material, so press ESC only after you have started the process.

Container

Storages are easy to use and store items up until a certain limit. Upgraded storages have the ability of preserving perishable items to make them last longer.

Water Tank

Some machines have water tanks. This is used for crafting anything that requires liquid, or simply to store water. You should only use water that you intend to use immediately. The interfaces for the machine in your inventory and the water container are the two main ones. On the right-hand side of the screen, you can use an A/D key to scroll between different water containers.

  • Pressing F will allow you to drink water from the tanks without opening its interface. It also works with palm sap collector.
  • You can interact directly with the sea and open an interface to collect seawater for salt making or distillation into clean drinking water.
