HD Textures and 4k, reshade, Nvidia SGSSAA Configuration

4k Resolution along with fps above 60 fps

I recommend to use this with my hd texture mod here: https://www.nexusmods.com/mods/1/&game_id=3702?tab=description

To get high resolutions for the game, the easiest way is to use Timeslip’s patch http://timeslip.users.sourceforge.net/ You’ll be limited to 1920×1440 or 1920×1080 though.

If you want higher resolutions, Reshade, or Nvidia SGSSAA, it’s a little harder. You’ll need the game running off dgVoodoo2 with DirectX. In order for DirectX to fully work, I have edited Sum.exe and Summoner.exe. This may also fix performance issues with some systems. Game seems to run above 60 fps without the game speeding up, but more testing may be required. I played the game at 2880×2160 (4:3 aspect) using this.

1. Install Summoner v1.40 game patch if you haven’t already (check in-game at options menu)

2. Go to http://dege.freeweb.hu/ and download a stable release. I used v2.73
3. In the zip file, unpack dgVoodooCpl.exe to your Summoner folder (for Steam, should be in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Summoner)
4. Also in the zip file, open MS –> x86 –> and unpack D3Dlmm.dll and DDraw.dll to your Summoner folder

5. Open dgVoodooCpl.exe from your Summoner folder

6. In the ‘General’ tab, set ‘Appearance’ to ‘Full screen’
7. set ‘Scaling Mode’ to ‘Centered, keep Aspect’
8. set ‘Keep Windows Aspect Ratio’ and ‘Capture Mouse’ to enabled/checked
9. Hit Apply

10. Go to ‘DirectX’ tab, set video card as ‘dgVoodoo Virtual 3D Accelerated Card’
11. set VRAM to 2048 mb (or less if your card supports less)
12. disable dgVoodoo Watermark
13. set Texturing, Resolution (4:3 or 16:9, 16:9 will be stretched), and anti-aliasing to your taste
14. Hit Apply

15. When using DirectX with dgVoodoo2, the game may crash on start. It thinks you’re a glide card trying to run DirectX. So I removed all references to glide for startup check. Download my edited Sum.exe and Summoner.exe from https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/16P2HI_iqt93hwhp6K-rqUC1kC5fdi8k2?usp=sharing (It already has 4gb aware patch applied)
16. Backup your current Sum.exe and Summoner.exe, then override them with my versions

17. Open Summoner.exe then open ‘Setup’. ‘Detect Available Cards’ then select your modern Direct3D card
18. Make sure 1024×768 resolution is selected.
19. Hit Apply

20. Launch the game. At the in-game options DISABLE ‘Vertex Lighting’ and set others to taste. (Vertex Lighting is an optimization for older cards that makes the game uglier, so we turn it off)
21. Be sure to hit the check mark for settings to save

Reshade

1. Go to https://reshade.me/ and download
2. Run the setup. Go to ‘select a game’, browse to Sum.exe
3. Select ‘Direct3D 10/11/12’ as your api
4. Select your preferred effects

Nvidia SGSSAA

For SGSSAA Sparse Grid Super Sampling Anti Aliasing (Nvidia only, highest quality aa but performance taxing, it is like DSR) I ran this game with 8x SGSSAA and my 1080ti was only half used.

1. Go to https://github.com/Orbmu2k/nvidiaProfileInspector/releases and download the latest release
2. Install anywhere and open Nvidia Profile Inspector. Go to ‘Summoner’ profile
3. On the top toolbar, go to ‘Add application to current profile’. Point it to your Sum.exe
4. For the next few settings, all your numbers must match in order for this to work. So all three settings must be 4x if you want 4x SGSSAA
5. Under ‘Antialiasing’ section, set ‘Antialiasing – Setting’ to either ‘2x [2x Multisampling]’, ‘4x [4x Multisampling]’, or ‘8xQ [8x Multisampling]’
6. set ‘Antialiasing – Transparency Supersampling’ to ‘2x Sparse Grid Supersampling’, ‘4x Sparse Grid Supersampling’, or ‘8x Sparse Grid Supersampling’
7. select ‘Apply changes’ -if you update drivers you may have to do steps 2-6 again

8. open dgVoodooCpl.exe from your Summoner folder
9. Go to ‘DirectX’ tab, set ‘Antialising’ to 2x, 4x, or 8x

  1. It seems that Timesplit patch is breaking THQ logo at the start.. Otherwise with 3dfx mode game is running at 60 FPS, with D3D patch at 144 Hz, i have 144 monitors. Im not really sure if in D3D in too much on PCgamingWiki is some note tame has too fast problem above 60 FPS..
