Reliable method to achieve the Can't Cat-ch me achievement

1 – Reach the beginning point

You can play the game until you reach Dead City. Here is a cutscene in which Cat runs away from a bunch small and ugly bugs. This is a short run segment in which you must run & avoid the bugs for approximately one minute before you reach safety by jumping through a window or over a gap.

You can shake off a bug that has managed to jump on you or latch onto you. However, this achievement requires a flawless run. You must complete the entire run from the start to the end without any bugs connecting or latching. If you see a prompt to shake off the bug, hit Esc/Start to restart from checkpoint.

2 – Try to achieve the achievement

Although the bugs spawn at a set time and place, their behavior is unpredictable. There is a lot of variation in the number and type of bugs that will jump at you, at what angle or height. The exact same tactic or execution can lead to drastically different results if used twice. You will improve if you practice.

3 – Take a look at videos and guides

After 30-50 attempts, you'll be able to miraculously succeed in parts that you had been having trouble with before. Then you'll be caught by a magically-homing lighting fast bug in an easy section. You will begin to wonder what you are missing/why you can't seem to get it right. This is when you start looking for googling tips. This is normal. The trophy is extremely difficult and highly RNG-based. It does not necessarily mean that you are a terrible player or a horrible person.

Darkhowl Gaming has a video that may be of assistance. He gives a thorough breakdown of how you can maximize your chances. Full disclosure: I am not affiliated with this channel in any manner. It is the most helpful guide that I could find, hence the share. Although the "easy way" title is clearly clickbait, it is a common theme on Youtube. The actual breakdown is worth reading – it starts at 2:47. If you are looking for the most useful information, skip to the timestamp. Don't take this as gospel. You can browse / search for many other tips & tricks.

4 – Refresh your knowledge

Now that you have all the tools and knowledge necessary to face this challenge, get back to the game to show off your gaming skills. Focus. Breathe. Remember. Execute. This is possible.

5 – Take a break, then try again

You will soon be exhausted and frustrated after a few hours or 100+ attempts. Take a break. Take a break. Walk your dog, pet your cat, or talk to your family. You can always come back to the game later after you've finished salting the waters and have another go.

6 – Have an epiphany

You will realize that this is not worth your effort or time. This "challenge", while frustrating and annoying, is simply absurd. It was not tested or thought through properly by the developers before it was implemented. This absolute garbage is fun to play. This RNG-based nonsense is not worth your time.

7 – Find a solution to the problem

Open your favorite search engine, type "team achievement manager" into the search box, and then hit the Enter key. The first URL should be a page on github where you can find the code as well as a link to the program. It is a zip file. Download it, unzip it where you like, and then run the application.

The Steam games list will appear. Scroll down until Stray is found. Double-click the icon to open the game's menu. This will open a list with all the achievements for the game. Scroll down until you see "Can't cat-ch" and then click the "commit changes” button in the upper right corner of your application. Now you can exit the application. You can now delete the application from your computer.

8 – Conclusion

This is a rant guide. But it is more than that. I strongly recommend that even completionists and achievement hunters not bother with this. SAM has been used twice by me in the history of Steam: once to unlock a bugged achievement that I had all the requirements for, but was unable to unlock, and once for this. It is so bad.

It doesn't really matter how much you practice, gitting gud doesn't really matter, and strategy doesn't really matter. They may appear to help, but they can be easily misled. Smart positioning is key to ensuring that spawns are not harmed. The skill cap is actually very low. All strategies for working are very unpredictable. The enemy's behavior is far too random. This means that the only thing that will guarantee a perfect run is absolute insane luck / RNG.

This achievement is TLDR, and you should not waste any time on it. You can move on to the next game, another game, or something else in your daily life.
