Hello dearies. I get asked a lot about modding this game, so I thought I would make a guide. You should only need to follow a few steps to be able to mod the game.

How to get Mods

First, decide where you want to purchase your mods.

Two sources are available that I can recommend.
nexusmods.com – [nexusmods.com]

It is the most trusted and reliable source for mods for Stardew Valley. An account will be required. It is completely free. You can upgrade your Nexus account for faster download speeds, but this is not required. Most mods for Stardew Valley also have small sizes. If you decide not to use your account, you can delete it at any time.

Stardew Nexus – [nexusmods.com]

Alternativ, you can also visit www.amazing.com
ModDrop.com – [ModDrop.com]

You can also download mods for Stardew Valley some from this site. ModDrop does not require an account. This might be a better option if you only need a few mods.

Smapi!

Next, you need to find the actual mod injector known as Smapi.

It is available here for download:
Smapi – [smapi.io]

You might also want Smapi to be successfully launched via steam. This is how it works:

After installing Smapi keep the window open and pay close attention to this section.

The highlighted part is a filepath leading to the modding API. You can copy it directly in the console by highlighting the file and pressing "enter". The filepath is for most users;

"C:\Program Files (x86 – \Steam\steamapps\common\Stardew Valley\StardewModdingAPI.exe" %command%

Copy everything!

Follow these steps for the final step:

1 – In your Library, Right-click on Stardew Valley and choose "Properties".

2 – Click on the box in "General" under "Launch Options".

3 – Copy the filepath to the modding interface.

Smapi should now be able to launch via steam! 😀

Some tips and tricks for installing mods

It is very easy to install mods. It is easy to download mods, unpack them, and then place the folders in your "Mods", folder.

C:\Program Files (x86 – \Steam\steamapps\common\Stardew Valley

Here is some useful and good advice:

It's always a good idea for mods to be kept current! The Smapi console will usually inform you if a particular mod needs to be updated. This can sometimes be a false alert depending on the mod author. They may not have updated their manifest correctly. If smapi claims that an update is available for a specific mod, but you have the latest version, this is a false alarm and should be corrected by the mod author.

Some larger expansion mods require a lot more dependency mods to work properly. Always ensure you read the instructions carefully and follow all steps provided by mod authors.

Compability is also important as some mods don’t work well together so it shouldn’t be mixed. It may not be a good idea, depending on the mod to add or remove a mod during a playthrough. Many people find themselves in situations that could be avoided if they simply read the information.

Last but not least, please report bugs to mod authors. This will help them improve and fix their mods. This will in turn help us all! 😀

A few final words

Modding is fun, but it can be time-consuming and requires patience if you're new to the hobby. This official guide has more information and assistance.
