Stardew Valley – How to marry Kent or almost any other non-marriageable Npc

Important Information

Please note that due to the fact that the Npc’s are supposed to be unmarriageable there are some issues that I have noticed that i wish to notify you of. 
 
1.Be aware that there is no marriage cut scene for non-marriageable Npc candidates. 
 
2.I have noticed that the kissing animation is missing and results in two black vertical npc size bars appearing when you kiss them. You may also encounter these bars when doing some event activities with Them as well. One such event i encountered this was at the Flower Dance. 
 
 
3.I have been married to Kent for more than a year and he has yet to ask me if i want to have a baby so i don’t think you can have children with normally unmarriagable Npc’s. 
 
4.Another issue i have run into happens during events, for example the “Feast Of the Winter Star” if I try speak to the Ex Npc spouse of the Non-Marriagable Npc I have married the game will crash to desktop.So if you can avoid it don’t talk to the Ex Npc Spouse of your chosen Non-marriagable npc. 
 
For example: I am married to Kent so If I try to speak to Jodi at events I will crash 
to desktop. 
 
5.When you marry a non-Marriageable candidate they get a room just like the Marriageable Npc’s.However,It will be Empty.You can decorate it yourself for you chosen 
 
 
 

Getting Started

-Create a new game or you can use an existing game file if you like. 
 
-If you create a new game and want to marry Kent you will have to wait until he appears in Year 2. 
Most other Non-Marriageable Npc candidates you can do in year one. 
 
-Upgrade your house until you have the room with a crib in it. 
 
-Get atleast 8 friendship hearts with Kent or other non-marriageable Npc of your choosing. 
 
-You will have to edit your Save file a bit for this so You will need some sort of Text editor. Get Notepad++ or something similar to it for editing.. (I don’t recommend using regular notepad or wordpad that comes with Windows, they are crappy.) 
 
 
 

Editing your game file

First you want to open your savefile in your text editor. 
 
Use the search feature to search the name of your chosen Non-Marriagable candidate and search until you find something that looks like this: 
 
<string>Kent</string></key><value><Friendship><Points>0</Points><GiftsThisWeek>0</GiftsThisWeek><GiftsToday>0</GiftsToday><TalkedToToday>false</TalkedToToday><ProposalRejected>false</ProposalRejected><Status>Friendly</Status><Proposer>0</Proposer><RoommateMarriage>false</RoommateMarriage> 
 
Kent here is my example.you can either work on getting 8 hearts in game or you can edit <Points>0</Points> and give the npc 2500 frienship points which will give him/her 8 hearts. 
 
You will also need to edit their <Status>Friendly</Status> from Friendly to Married. 
 
Lastly, go back to the search box of your text editor and search for timesReachedMineBottom. 
You will find this: <timesReachedMineBottom>0</timesReachedMineBottom>. 
Put <spouse>Kent</spouse> directly after <timesReachedMineBottom>0</timesReachedMineBottom>. 
It should look like this:<timesReachedMineBottom>0</timesReachedMineBottom><spouse>Kent</spouse> 
 
Where kent’s name is you can put the name of your Non marriageable npc you want to marry. 
 
Save your game file and launch game.you should now be married to your chosen Non-marriageable candidate. 
 
 
 

Just married!

Congratulations! If you have done everything right you are now married to your chosen Non-Marriageable candidate!
