Website registration

Once the game started, you will have to go through the 2-phase procedure: Website registration & Initial Assessment.

Step 1. Once the game started, you will have to either Log In or Register. If you already have a Spirit of Europe account, you can enter your credentials. If instead, you want to create a new account, you can use the “Register” option which will direct you to the Spirit of Europe – Origins website.
 
 

 
 
Step 2. Once you accessed www.thespiritofeurope.eu – [thespiritofeurope.eu] , use the “Register” – [thespiritofeurope.eu]  button on the top right part of the page to get started.
 
 

 
 
Step 3. After pressing the “Register” button, you will be greeted by the registration page. Here, you have to enter a username, a password as well as some extra details like your e-mail address, your first name and surname etc. Once you are done, press “Create my new account”.
 
 
*Note that your password MUST CONTAIN one upper case letter(s), one number and at least one non-alphanumeric character such as #, ^, $.
 
 

 
 

 
 
Step 4. After creating a new account, an email will be sent to you prompting you to “activate” your account. Please check your SPAM folder as well, since sometimes our emails get there. Access the link for your account to be activated.
 
 

 
 
Step 5. Congratulations! You have managed to create a new account. After confirming your account, you will be prompted by the Login page. To continue, enter your credentials and click the “Log In” button.
 
 

 
 
 

Initial Assessment (Quiz 1)

Step 7. You need to attempt and finish the Initial Assessment. – [thespiritofeurope.eu]  The quiz contains 20 questions with only one correct answer. To start the quiz, press the TAKE QUIZ button on the main page of the website/course and then click the “Attempt quiz now” button.
 
 

 
 

 
 

 
 
Step 8. You will be presented with a random question from the “Question Bank”. You only have one single correct answer per question. After selecting your answer, continue with the next question and so on. Once you are done press the “Finish attempt” button in the right-down corner of the page.
 
 

 
 

 
 
Step 9. After you finished the Initial Assessment, you can now Log In using your credentials in the Spirit of Europe – Origins game.

As stated in the description, this game is an edutainment product. Our mission is to up the game in the edutainment genre by providing better products for a leaner, more enjoyable learning experience. However, in order to do so, we need to undergo some educational research.
 
 
This game is also considered a learning module – hence the game’s connection with a learning platform. After completing the final assessment quiz – upon finishing the game, you will be awarded a participation certificate. In the end, it is your freedom to provide us with accurate information – or not.
 
 
Why personal information?
 
It’s simple: the financier – European Commission – requires the information in order to check on our activity & make sure we don’t just make up the number of players involved in the research, and/or its learning outcomes. For instance, the phone number/e-mail is required by the financier, since officials from the EC may contact participants to find out if they are actual participants in the study.

What about the research – what is it?
 
We’re just trying to assess the success of such edutainment products from various points of view: entertainment, learning outcomes, time invested vs gains, from an educational and entertainment perspectives. Our hypothesis is that as long as learning is fun enough, learning comes virtually free. Since we are trying to find out how to make better and better edutainment games in a scientific manner, we need to collect various data just like any other developer (regarding what players like/dislike, technical specs etc.) aside from those specifically required by our research endeavor (assessment scores before/after finishing the game, opinions on the quality/quantity of information, its relevance, learning outcomes etc.)
 
 
All in all, we just want to make quality educational content for gamers to enjoy. With a very small team, we strived to give you the best experience we could while trying to satisfy financier’s, research methodology’s and the gaming market’s requirements, needs & preferences. Let’s just say the conundrum is a goat, cabbage and wolf – level problem to say the least.
