This is all about Sonic Frontiers – Steam Deck Settings Guide. I’m sure you have noticed that the game is in a poor state regarding the deck. However, I have spent a lot of time tweaking settings to get it running at what i consider enjoyable levels.

These are a few things I’d like to mention ahead of time:

This does not eliminate flickering, but it does greatly reduce it.

This does not eliminate stuttering, but it does significantly reduce them.

You will need GE-Proton 7–41 (search to ProtonUp–Qt to setup. It’s effortless)

Now that you have all that out of the way let’s get into the settings that make this game playable on the deck.

ON GAME PROPERTIES

General->Launch Options: DXVK_ASYNC=1 %command%

This will help to reduce stuttering.

Force compatibility tool: GE Proton7-41

Start the game, and press your… button to go down the performance tab after everything is loaded up. You can do so from there if you don’t have advanced view enabled.

PERFORMANCE SETTINGS

Use per-game profile: ON(is not necessary, but it makes things easier each time you launch)

Limit on Frame Rates 40

Refresh Rate 40

IN-GAME GRAPHICS SETTINGS

  • Shadow Quality
  • Frame Rate Limit 60
  • Anti Aliasing: TAA
  • Ambient Occlusion: On
  • Local Reflection
  • Low Bloom
  • Volumetric Lighting High
  • Rendering Scale 75% (minimizes flickering but can still happen occasionally. If you don’t mind a lot of flickering, you can run 100%. Performance is about the same)
  • Resolution: 1280×800
  • Fullscreen Mode
  • Vsync:

These settings have been beneficial for me over the past 8 hours. I haven’t experienced stuttering or flickering, but they are still quite common. The frame rate is locked at 40fps, frame times are very solid, and overall it provides a very smooth experience.

We hope this helps while we wait for a patch to make it more deck-friendly.
