Welcome to Sonic Adventure™ 2 – Steam Deck Mod Installation Tutorial Guide. Using this guide, you will learn how to install the mod loader on your Steam Deck.

This guide assumes you know how to install the SA2 mod loader from GameBanana and receive its files. This guide assumes that you are familiar with how to access the Desktop mode of the Steam Deck.

Gathering the Files

Let’s get started. You can either set it up on another computer or transfer it to a USB Flash Drive if you have modified files elsewhere. Since you can see exactly what is on the USB Flash Drive, I recommend it. You can also download your mods from GameBanana and put them in the mods folder in SA2ModLauncher. Let’s see how this works.

Files can be added or replaced.

Please, please, make sure to open SA2’s Launcher at a minimum once. After that, you will not be able to configure your controls. Make sure Steam Input is turned on.

We are advised to do.

Add your files to the archive. If you have enough time to play with it, you can get around ModLoader’s limitations on Linux by running Proton Experimental separately. You can remove Launcher.exe. I recommend renaming it to another name in case your Launcher settings get removed. Rename SA2ModLoader.exe to (and then) Launcher.exe. Open the game in Steam and check to ensure there are no mod files if it crashes. If you don’t have one, rename the files and try again.

ModLoader and Adding Additional Mods

You cannot access or download files outside Steam Deck’s Game Mode. To add more mods, you will need to enter Desktop Mode. Download the mods and place them in your Mods Folder.

Every time you hit Play on Sonic Adventure 2, the ModLoader will start. As far as I know, there is no way around it. Install the Loader package to ensure that your mods work.
