Welcome to (Restaurant Empire II – Linux Proton Guide). This guide will share our experience making Restaurant Empire 2 work on Linux.

Generalities about Windows games that -can’t- run on Linux

  • Proton, a free embedded software in Steam, allows you to -try – to make your games run on Linux even though they aren’t natively on Linux. Can also be called Steam Play.
  • Wine software is free and can be downloaded on your Linux.

Check every time the website ProtonDB to see if you have the best chance of winning Linux games that aren’t made for Linux.

If Proton isn’t available for your games, you can do this:

“In the top-left corner, click Steam -> Settings-> Steam Play. Tick “Enable Steam Play on all titles.”

Proton at Restaurant Empire 2

If you don’t have Proton enabled on your games, please read the first section of this guide. Next, we’ll try Proton on Restaurant Empire.

  • Go to your library.
  • Right-click on your game.
  • Settings.
  • Compatibility.
  • You can force the use a specific Steam Play compatibility device.
  • Proton 4.2 is my personal favorite because it runs more smoothly for me. But it’s up to you to decide.
  • Now, go to General.
  • As the ProtonDB blog post mentions, Use the following launch option to fix the cutscene crash. PROTON_USE_D9VK=1
  • Close the settings and launch the game. Be patient.
  • Please comment or go to the Wine section in this guide if this doesn’t work.

Wine on Restaurant Empire 2 (if Proton fails)

Ubuntu Software App: Install Wine

If you still have problems with Proton, make sure you have Wine installed on the computer.

  • Library.
  • Right-click on the game.
  • Browse local files.
  • Ubuntu users can right-click on the directory and open it with terminal
  • Type “Wine re2.exe”.

The game should not have music, but it should have sounds.
