View the maps created at various points in Quake 2’s development. The pre-E3 period, ETCS 1997 (September 7–9, 1997), and E3 1997 (June 19–21, 1997).

Hello, folks.
As you can see, Nightdive Studios did an amazing job of remastering Q2. They also provided us with pre-release, unused, and old content for Quake 2.
E3 1997 and ETCS maps
The update contains maps from E3 (June 19, 21 – ), ETCS 97, (September 7-9 The maps are accessible through the main menu -> ID Vault Development.
Do something:
- Playable: E3 1997
- Playable: ECTS 97
Note: ECTS 97 ends at the level “kmdm3_ec” at the point you take out Tank Commander and it’s not a matter of saying that it’s the end of ECTS 97 maps.
Old maps that are no longer accessible (access via the main menu isn’t possible)
There are maps that haven’t been remastered as of yet in the “old” folder of the game archive. It is believed to be an alternative version of Q2 maps. Some are even older than E3 levels.
You can access them via console ( key on the keyboard, to the left uppermost, under Escape). You have to type the command “map oldbaseold”.

- ware1
- xcommand5
Maps from E3 and ETCS 1997
You can access E3 Maps using the console command “map E3bunk_e3”.
You can access ETCS 1997 maps by typing “map ecbase_ec”.
