Quick and easy guide to setting up a firewall

Everything

I won’t bore you with useless information. Let’s get straight to the point.

These are firewall commands. I don’t use the iptables command as it has been replaced by nftables in recent Linux distributions. These codes can be converted to ufw if you are using ufw.

We are opening steam ports.

Game ports 16261 & 16262

sudo firewall-cmd --zone=public --add-service=https --permanent
sudo firewall-cmd --zone=public --add-port=16261-16262/tcp --permanent
sudo firewall-cmd --zone=public --add-port=16261-16262/udp --permanent
sudo firewall-cmd --zone=public --add-forward-port=port=80:proto=tcp:toport=1-65535 --permanent
sudo firewall-cmd --zone=public --add-forward-port=port=27015-27050:proto=tcp:toport=1-65535 --permanent
sudo firewall-cmd --zone=public --add-forward-port=port=27014-27050:proto=udp:toport=1-65535 --permanent
sudo firewall-cmd --zone=public --add-forward-port=port=3478:proto=udp:toport=1-65535 --permanent
sudo firewall-cmd --zone=public --add-forward-port=port=4379-4380:proto=udp:toport=1-65535 --permanent
sudo firewall-cmd --reload

Here are some explanations.

Remote Ports in Steam Guide is aka Source Port. If not specified, local port is referred to as destination port.

Game ports are always local ports, also known as destination ports. 16262 doesn’t require TCP, as it is based upon UDP Raknet. But, I will still open just for the sake.

Done.
