If you're anything like I, you'll quickly realize that this game is frustrating and time-consuming. This guide will help you to manage the in-game resource demands as you expand your Space Station.

Overview

I have found that I need multiple "Resource Modules" to add additional "Core Modules" to my orbit industries. These include a Laboratory or Briefing Room, as well as Solar Arrays, Airlocks, Environmental Control, and Solar Arrays. Problem is that you will need more resources to build those resource modules. This can lead to a situation where you have to constantly search for a balance point, which can become very time-consuming. To help you with this problem, I created a spreadsheet calculator that does most of the heavy lifting. It will calculate how many resources modules you will need to balance your station, based on the number of core modules it has (.

You will see 4 colored areas on the right side of the spreadsheet with the names for each of the four categories.

The game's core modules. They are organized by type. Research, Commerce, Defense, and Infrastructure. You can enter the number of each module by selecting the space below them.

Preference for Resource Module

There are 14 resources that the game requires. These 14 resources can only be generated by one module. The other half can be generated using 2-4 modules. You will need to choose which module you want the calculator to use to generate these 7 resources: Power, Water, Atmosphere, Payload Exchange, Computing Power, Temperature Control, Temperature Control, Workforce, and Power. You will see a series check-mark boxes in the middle of the spreadsheet. To make the calculator work, you must select one of each resource type. Although the spreadsheet allows you select multiple modules per resource type, it will lead to a large surplus and higher cost than necessary. Splitting the generation of a resource among multiple types of modules is not supported at this time, but it will be in a future version. Resource Modules

After you have chosen your preferred resource module (,) for the resource where multiple modules generate it, and entered your desired number core modules, the Calculator will calculate how many core modules you will need to supply all your core modules and resource modules. The calculator will also inform you about your station Upkeep Cost. This information is located in the Spreadsheet's bottom left.

Limitations and Acknowledgements

This Spreadsheet and all calculations assume that your station efficiency is 100% at all times. Your station will experience various errors and disasters while playing orbit industries. This will temporarily lower your modules' efficiency. Your station's resource values might not always match the ones in the spreadsheet.
