Chapter I. Files

0. Before you begin modding your game, you should first download ” Left 4 Dead Authoring Tools “, you will find it in Chapter X: Programs.

1. As we begin, let’s get started, our little script cats modifying this game. First, you should create a sub-folder with any name. (the main thing is to make sure it does not exist or is not blocked) Create a folder named “Left 4 Dead 2“, and then create another folder called “pak01_dir” to store all add-ons files.

2. Go to the ” left4dead2\addons\workshop\ After downloading the software, open it up and drag-and-drop the addon file ([digits].vpk) in it. Select any folders appearing on the right column. They will not work with multiplayer games (except scripts) but only singleplayer/locally hosted games. Drag them to the folder you created at step (pak01_dir).

3. Once you’ve moved all the files from all the add-ons in the folder pak01_dir, go to the “bin\“, and locate the program vpk.exe. This message will appear once you have installed the app from step 0. Drag this file to vpk.exe. After it has finished its work, (the program should be closed), you will see pak01_dir.vpk in the same folder as you created at step 1. Drag this folder over to vpk.exe. After it has finished its work (the program should be closed), you will see pak01_dir.vpk in the same directory that you created during step 1.

4. The last step I’m tired to write this… Open the text file gameinfo.txt in the folder “left4dead2\“, between the curly-brackets that follow SearchPaths you should find lines similar to “Game (folder)“, specify this with your own folder name created in the previous step and save this document.

5. Now you are able to play with addons from the Valve Workshop on the official Valve server.
