Many players find World Ascension scary and intimidating. It doesn't have it to be. This guide will help plan for World Ascension, so you know you won't lose everything. You'll actually be more fortunate because you'll be more powerful and able push ahead faster.
Planning World Ascension: A Plan
Let's begin by reviewing the information tooltip on World Ascension.
The good news is that there are some things we can do. Prestige abilities for areas, dungeons, or guild abilities. We don't yet know what they are (. I won't spoil them). However, the developers claim that these abilities are worth it and we will believe them.
Many things will be reset. We will start over in many ways.
Many things won't be reset. We get to keep everything we invest in that isn't going to be reset.
This list will appear when you hover over the Accomplishments icon.
As we can see, Accomplishments allow us to keep more stuff. When we consider our first World Ascension, the first two unlock (unique items and keep catalyst levels).
These three strategic principles are derived from this information:
- Maximize your investment in the things that you will keep.
- Reduce your investment in things you won't be able to keep.
- Do not delay your investment in the things that you might keep next time
List of easy decisions: Things that you'll be able to keep
Do your global quests, and your daily diaries
You can keep your global quests. Daily quests grant you Epic Coins (, which you can keep) and Portal Orbs (. These are the things you should do and then turn them in.
Claim your titles
Your titles are protected. This means that you can keep your skill slots, damage upgrades, completion bonus increases, damage reduction bonuses, and damage reduction bonuses. You should strive to obtain titles every day.
Equipment mastery effects
It is always worth achieving a class to level 10, on an equipment piece. Partly because Apprentice titles are determined by how many pieces you have raised to level 10. It unlocks the mastery effect and you can keep it after World Ascension. (If you get a piece or gear below level 9, you will lose all your progress. I'll discuss this further in the 'timing’ section.)
Talisman progress is very slow so it's important that you keep your talismans and talisman levels. This is a long-lasting item, so treat it as such.
Upgrades to alchemy and potion levels
Level 0 potions can be used when you don't have hitpoints or are not facing any serious threats. You'll need potions of level 50 or higher if you want to fight off a level 250 monster.
So do it! Because you'll have the potions levelled after you complete a World Ascension. This will allow you to finish the low-level content.
Materials and essence of alchemy
Although it may not seem like much, it is worth knowing how important it will be to your success. Did you ever spend three days trying to get 50 slime balls? Notice how many slime balls you have now? This is three days of waiting you can skip.
You also remember how difficult it was to make a living when you started out. Now, you have level 75 health potions and a huge stockpile slime essence. 1 point of slime essence will give you 1 health potion. These health potions can be purchased for more than 100 gold at level 75. With a little preparation, it is possible to have as much gold as you need for purchasing early-game upgrades. (The ones that really make a difference.)
Research progress and town building unlocks
Do you remember what it was like being on 10K slime coins but not being able to spend any? This problem won't happen again (if you solve it before World Ascension).
There are also really nice possible researchable effects of buildings. While you may lose all of your building levels, you will find it much easier to obtain (, especially the low levels), if you still have all the things that you researched to make the high levels more affordable.
Traps (, and thus taming points are bestiary progression), are possibly the most long-term investments in the game. Because you can keep your progress after World Ascension.
Expedition levels and XP
An expedition in progress can't be kept. You can keep the XP rewards earned by completing expeditions and all the items you unlock on the expedition screen.
Epic coin purchases
These items are not yours to take away by the devs. (The best items in the epic shop are 'Improving minimum day quest rarity', and 'equipment endurance'. The rarity upgrade is worth the cost in increased epic coin income. But the real benefit is the additional portal orbs. Equipment tenacity allows you to equip any piece of gear even if you don’t have the stats. This makes it easier to obtain equipment mastery and related titles.)
Avoid delaying investments
Don't get serious about collecting unique equipment until you've got a successful strategy for keeping unique equipment. (See the 'equipment section below.)
You get to keep the materials you use to upgrade your catalyst. You can't keep the catalyst upgrades after you reach 10 achievement points. Consider how much of each ingredient you have and consider whether you will want to use the catalyst products before or after you ascend. (Except we're referring to slime catalyst because slime oil can be obscenely easily obtained.)
Because everything else is consuming resources you will lose when you do world ascendence anyway. It's not worth holding onto Mysterious Water when you can increase the Mysterious Water limit. If the Mysterious Water is going out, you might as easily enjoy the increase in water income from increasing the cap.
You should also be rebirthing heroes (, especially Tier 1 and 2 rebirths), whenever it makes sense to develop that hero. This contributes towards reaching ascension milestones.
Things you can spend gold on will disappear, but the gold itself.
Converting potions into money doesn't mean you will have the potions when you ascend. However, this process also generates alchemy points which you can keep.
Don't consider resources that are lost as wasted. Consider them as resources that were invested in achieving milestones and unlocks that will make the next cycle more powerful.
When it comes to world ascension, equipment is the biggest problem. It is one thing to lose your equipment, but it is quite a daunting prospect to lose the gear. There are three things that you can do to minimize your equipment loss.
- Find gear with enchant slot and/or enchantments
- Use the thief to add enchant slots onto your gear
- Earn 5 points for World Ascension achievements
Gear with an enchantment slot or enchantment can be kept. Once you have the blacksmith, you can level it up to level 5, and then "Unlock a new Dictionary Upgrade." This upgrade is called "Treasure of Fortune 1" because it increases the likelihood that items you find will contain enchant slots. Combining this upgrade with "Treasure Hunting", it is possible to build up a collection enchanted gear that you can use to equip your guild members when you complete world ascension. . (If you prefer to find hidden unlocks in-game, don't click on the spoiler.)
You can also look at the mouse-over of any piece or gear in the game to see that the Thief mastery capability adds enchantment slot. This means that (after you unlock the thief) in a few days, you will be able to gain Thief mastery over all your Common gear. This will ensure that all your Common gear will survive World Ascension. (This is a good idea. Common gear mastery is fast and your thief will be able to benefit from the additional equipment slots that come with mastering many different gear pieces.) This is a very simple purchase. If you only ever buy one item from the Epic Coin Store, then you can buy 'equipment strength'. (Not to confuse with certain game marketplaces, which are not Steam.)
You should be able keep all the high-priority gear if you separate the important items from the less important. (If you have a long list of high-priority items, you can spend a little more time before you move up. You will reap the benefits.)
This brings us to the issue of unique equipment. It can take a long time to master a piece of rare gear. Most people won't wait that long.
The problem is not the name. Unique gear isn’t as unique as you might think. I have found 4 slimeponchos, and I disassembled 3 because I needed the inventory slots. My mage is currently wearing a spider skirt. I also have another one in my inventory.
Each piece of unique gear can only be found in one location, the place you find it. The gear itself isn't unique – you can find it in every place until you have enough (or grinding time. Or you can disassemble them as they keep showing up at your favorite) spot.
Rarely will you find unique gear that has an enchantment already on it. This means you can keep it.
You can keep your gear even if it's not enchanted, once you have five World Ascension achievements. It is impossible to achieve those accomplishments without world ascension. You will need to clean out your gear at least once. The question is whether you will focus on five accomplishments in your first ascension (. This means that you'll need to plan and study hard). Or whether you're willing lose your uniques multiple times.
When to ascend
There are times when you should not ascend and times when ascending is more of an assessment call. The easiest situation is when you cannot ascend, so you don’t! Until you reach four milestone points, there is no reason to start thinking about timing your ascension. If you're like me, you'll spend a few days on four milestones. That's enough time to decide if you want to stop at five or go further.
The highest milestone level per milestone earns you a bonus. You don't need to climb as soon as 5 milestone points are earned. You can wait until you reach a higher milestone maximum level. You could decide to climb to the top of each milestone before you ascend, to ensure that you get all milestone bonuses. You might decide to push yourself harder next time so you can get the maximum bonus.
As you get closer to being able ascend, take a look at the level of your guild. Consider what you want to unlock before you can ascend. What might be easier to unlock if you have guild XP bonuses or rebirth bonuses?
When to descend, but not to ascend
Do not ascend if you are right in the middle or beginning to reset something. Waiting for it to finish will give you a benefit that lasts ascension.
Don't climb with an expedition that is still in progress. You could wait for it finish and keep the expedition XP, pet XP. (The reward, depending on the type of expedition.)
Do not ascend before completing your daily quests for the day. Claim the epic coins and portal orbs first before ascending. (Because your heroes will reset to level 1 and may not be able complete the quest once you've ascended.)
If you are less than 80% through a level that ends with 4 or 9, don't attempt to ascend. After you ascend, complete the guild level and unlock the content.
If you are less than 80% through a Title Quest you have been working on for two weeks, don't climb. While you wait for the quest to complete, spend a few days building up a stash of Portal Orbs.
If you're about being removed from the game, don't climb. You might not be in a position to win any timed challenges with your current stats but you want to try and form an opinion about how you can improve next time.
Unless you don’t care. It's your game. If you're willing and able to sacrifice some things to get to new content, or if you know exactly what it is you want to do, then go ahead and do it your way.
There are many reasons to delay ascension
Do you have pets you would like to capture or rank up?
Are there general quests that are close enough to ranking up that you would like to complete so that their bonuses can help you get started as soon as you attain ascension?
Are there any titles that will be easier to obtain if you have a high-level, powerful character? (Take a look at Proof of Rebirth, Monster Study, Class Master and Class Master.)
Do you have any quests you would like to unlock so you can work on them once you ascension is over? (Think Survival, Quester, Equipment Master.)
Do you have any equipment you would like to keep? If so, you will need to wait until either the thief gains mastery (, or you get a lucky fall).
Reasons to Ascend sooner than later
Are you interested in unlocking the 'area/dungeon reputation' feature and additional guild abilities?
Your milestone bonuses at the'max level reached" would make a huge difference.
Would you be able afford nice ascension upgrades
Are you looking to prove your ability to achieve success?
This guide should have helped you to create a plan for world ascending. I recommend reading
Cryts Guide to World Ascension Preparation – [fandom.com]
. Crit will tell how many slime balls (or other ingredients) are needed to rank up your buildings. There are also some smart suggestions about what equipment to bring to help you win achievements early.
This guide is much more spoilery than the previous one. It assumes you are familiar with a lot of the game mechanics as well as the underlying issues. It is also more prescriptive. It doesn't tell you how to create your own strategy, but how to follow Cryt. (Cryt has an excellent strategy, but I prefer to answer the questions myself no matter how well someone else answers them.)
