The arctic is no joke if you go in unprepared.
 
 

Preparation is Key!

The arctic is really desolate aside from wolves, polar bears, and your Beta 3 mission objective. I felt that the storms, were a nuisance if you come prepared (if you don’t you freeze to death), but it does remind you to get out of the weather, and fix your gear, or sleep the night.
 
 
The largest challenge on this drop was to figure out (trial and error a bit) what to bring on the journey into the arctic.
 
 
Here is how I did it:
 
a) warm armor/clothes (I brought the carbon armor – it worked well enough in the arctic)
 
b) 3 types of food (jam, steak, bread). You will need glassworking bech, but definitely worth it if you have the points.
 
c) Weapons (you really need 2 guns: rifle and shotgun) and plenty of ammo. I brought 2 stacks of each and it was plenty.
 
d) source of heat and fuel for the storms (a campfire will get you by, but you will consume more food and water… A potbelly stove will be the best.
 
e) I decided to cave it all the way up there. I built no cabins whatsoever – would have taken more more time with buildings, and I really wanted to see the mission end.
 
f) know how to cave properly. I would have died more had I not used the cave caps/walls. I aggroed 2 polar bears and 4 wolves and that cave wall saved me 1 or 2 hours of corpse run or rebuilding my expedition gear. Break the wall midwaist, so you jump in the cave… The wolves will be stopped and so will any bear (so far in Beta 3).
 
g) get 1 water thermos or at least 1 or 2 canteens, and an oxygen tank or two oxygen bladders. There is plenty of ice to melt, but then you have to bring more fuel and it slows you down… Don’t bring oxygenators… 1 filled oxygen tank is enough.
 
h) bring your machining bench, a stack of steel ingots and a sleeping bag. You will need your machining bench and stack of steel to fix your guns.
 
 
You will need to cave all the way to the objective to get out of the storms and sleep the nights.
