Guide on how to avoid Major Pliskhan's attacks

Introduction

If they made it past world 3, this would be the bane of all my runs. Major Warren Pliskhan, currently the final boss of this game, is my opinion the most difficult boss in the entire game. This fight can be made easier by knowing how to avoid his attacks, which will be covered in phase two.

Moving Tips

I will be using a few terms which may or may not be the same as the techniques by most others. I will be storing these here (and will put this in any future Have a Nice Death guide that I make).

1. Upperslash

The "upperslash", which I refer to as a technique for dodging, is one of my favorite. It is simple and involves an up attack. Jumping can increase the height of the upperslash. This is useful for getting high in the air or to avoid attacks that cover the entire floor.

2. Air combos

They can be used to increase airtime and have the same utility as combat. These are useful for lingering threats or when there isn’t enough safe space to land.

Attacks

Warren is the Sorrow of Modern Warfare. His attacks are military-themed and some of them can be difficult to dodge.

All the attacks from phase 1 will also be present in phase 2.

Phase 1

  • Fire Pillars Warren will leap into the air holding two large missiles in each hand. The reaper's base will run (floating at the same speed that he moves towards Death.) speed, while simultaneously lighting fire towards the ground. This shuts off periodically. This attack has a very tight dash window. You have less than a second to complete the dash after the fire goes out. To avoid this attack, you can use a high upperslash on Warren to reach the top of the arena. You can also use an air combo to stay at the top. You can then drop to the ground and do another high upperslash by running. Rinse and continue until the attack is complete.
  • Rocket Jockey: Warren will summon a huge rocket to travel slowly across the arena, dropping cinders as it goes. It will rise in a parabolic manner to the top of the arena after reaching the last quarter. Warren will then drop from the opposite end of his arena. Air dashing through the falling dust cinders while Warren flies high above the arena is the best way for Warren to avoid any damage.
  • Bomb Jockey Warren jumps onto a bomb and bounces around the arena. Simple attacks with simple dodging, such as dashing towards Warren's peak during his hop, which is opposite to where he is going, can help you avoid getting caught in the large blast radius.
  • Little Man Nuke: Warren walks towards the arena's center before summoning a huge missile from the ground. If it is allowed to take flight, it will nuke all of the arena, inflicting massive damage on Death unless he correctly times a dash. This attack is very rare as it is easy to avoid the nuke. It is as simple as hitting the missile 4-4 times with the scythe. It doesn't matter if it does 15 damage or 100.
  • RPG: Warren fires two rockets towards death, four in phase 2. To avoid them, you can jump over the rockets. However, if he sends more than two, an air combo should be used.
  • Rocket Barrage: Warren summons two missile silos from the ground to fire about 12 missiles into the sky. They gain I-frames and the missiles then fall to the ground in random places. In phase 1, he can simply move out of the way, but in phase 2, he will follow up with one of several attacks. The Fire Pillars or RPG attacks will be shorter but more difficult to dodge because of the limited airspace created by the rockets.

Phase 2:

  • Fire Dash: Akin to the Fire Pillars attack but Warren follows a fixed course across the arena, moving side-by-side, until he reaches the middle. The delay between fire-less rockets fluctuates greatly. You can use the same strategies as for Flame Pillars, but dodge becomes more feasible.
  • Fire Tornado: Similar to the Fire Pillars attack but with Warren following a fixed path and spinning as the rockets ignite, Warren will occasionally shoot out three sets of fireballs at 45% angles from both sides. This can be difficult to dodge when Warren is close to the arena edge.
  • Knives Out: This happens only after a Rocket Barrage attack. Warren pulls out his knife and cuts around 10-11 times as the Rocket Barrage attack progresses towards Death. It is best to stay away from Warren.

Tips

  • Warren is a monster when he comes to area denial. Warren can sometimes put the arena's upper regions on the defensive due to the Rocket Barrage or Flame Pillars attacks. Warren will only fly if absolutely necessary.
  • Warren can quickly fill the screen with any number of projectiles. Therefore, attacking Warren when he's not on an explosive or none falling from the sky is a viable strategy. However, it takes a little more time.

The End

Warren Pliskhan, who is at the end, is a monster in combat and is often where most runs end, if they have reached world 4.

The next guide will not be out for at least a few months, as I plan to write about the Sorrow of the Natural Disasters section. However, if the update is delayed, I will still make a guide for Krank.
