Introduction

As the title suggests, this guide will show you the steps of creating and install a custom menu background.

NOTE: Before you start, it is suggested you create a backup of the original files you’re replacing

This is the directory where menu background videos are located:

...\steamapps\common\Halo The Master Chief Collection\mcc\Content\Movies

 

Prerequisite

We must first download RAD Video Tools before proceeding. This is necessary since the files that need to be replaced are in the.bk2 format, which calls for the RAD Videos Tools to convert your video files to the desired video format.

NOTE: When extracting the exe, it’ll ask you for a password; the password is “RAD”

Installing Custom Menu Background

Now that we have the required application, now we can start on installing a custom menu background.

This is the location of where the menu backgrounds are located:

....\steamapps\common\Halo The Master Chief Collection\mcc\Content\Movies

 

  1. Open RAD Video Tools, find the video of your choice and select “Bink It!”

  2. Once you select the video of your choice, there’ll be a range of option to configure your video; leave it as default and select “Bink” on the right side of the window

  3. Once it finishes converting, go to the location noted above where MCC’s .bk2 files are located

  4. Depending of which file you want to replace, rename the file to the one you’re replacing including the file format to “bk2” (refer to the table in the next category for which files it corresponds to)
     

    In my case, I’m going to replace the Halo: CE Vignette

  5. Once you’re done overwriting, startup MCC, go into your settings, “VIDEO”, and click “SELECT” for CONFIGURE BACKGROUNDS
  6. Choose which menu you want to replace, and from there find the video you’ve replaced it with

    In my case, I’m selecting the main menu with my customized Halo: CE Vignette.

NOTE: If your video has audio, it will play audio associated with it that is completely independent from the in-game menu music volume
